Community Spotlight: Black Hawk Down, Armada Fleets & 7TV Meets Dracula
September 6, 2023 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Black Hawk Down by oriskany
We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at a bit of Modern Warfare on the tabletop. oriskany always does some great work when it comes to showcasing the games that they play and this is no different. Here we have an awesome set-up showing off Black Hawk Down and the Battle Of Mogadishu.
This is the kind of battlefield that a lot of us would dream to play games on and it seems properly fitting for the cinematic gameplay of Black Hawk Down. This is the kind of game that you'd love to see at a convention and there are so many little bits and pieces here and there that draw the eye. I like that you've got plenty of height here and loads of nooks and crannies for you to send your soldiers into, regardless of which force that might be.
All of the iconic elements have been focused in on and you've even got a properly damaged helicopter for your game to centre around. As well as working on the table layout, oriskany also designed some new technicals to be dropped into the mix alongside the US forces that have been charged with rescuing the survivors of the crash.
It is well worth diving in and following along with the work from oriskany over in their project. Not only do you get to see some properly nice photography like this but you also get to learn a bit more about the history of these events as well. Follow along on the link above and maybe dive into the comments as well as oriskany is usually on hand to answer questions.
Armada by gorram
Next up, we're exploring a Fantasy world and setting sail on the high seas of Pannithor. With the Shadowed Horizons campaign on the horizon from Mantic Games, gorram thought they would dive in and paint up an awesome Tridents Realm fleet.
The work on these miniatures is bloody brilliant and I absolutely love the different colours that gorram has gone for across the board. It's so nice to see a lot of colour on display from oranges and purples through to red and blue. The churning seas of the bases are great and yes, it would also have taken a lot of time to do all of that detail work on their armour!
It's neat getting a closer look at all the miniatures that have made up this fleet and the little details that you start to notice more of as you take a closer look. For example, I love the additional work on the armour of the two creatures towards the front of the picture (above). It works really nicely alongside the bright green of the angler fish-style creature.
A properly awesome look at how these miniatures could turn out if you were to dive into playing a bit of Armada as the Trident Realms. Make sure to head on over to the project from gorram to learn a bit more about what they have planned.
7TV Dracula Campaign by jeffersonpowers
Last but not least, we have a look at a bit of gameplay from jeffersonpowers who has dove into playing 7TV and the Dracula campaign. They are going to be diving into this little campaign and playing out each of the scenarios in turn, telling the story of Dracula.
What's neat about this is that the different scenarios need lots of different terrain and jeffersonpowers is being inventive and using this in order to explore hobbying towards future encounters and scenarios. I do like that jeffersonpowers is also trying to play these games without breaking the bank, making do with what they have and trying to play as much as they can.
The first scenario has been detailed in full over on the project with a breakdown of how it went for both the Dracula player and those wanting to play as Harker and his kin. I really like the miniatures that have been painted up for this and the work going into the David Graffam Models.
I've not seen a lot of Crooked Dice being played so it's good to read about it and learn about the game through the scenarios that jeffersonpowers is going to be playing. Also, I am a sucker for a good battle report, much like the rest of us, and it will be good to see the entire of the campaign for 7TV played out in full.
