Community Spotlight: Battletech (Yes!), Grimdark Muties & Moonstone Magic
October 20, 2021 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Battletech by noyjatat
The first of the projects that we're going to be looking at comes from noyjatat who has been showing off some work on the Battletech miniatures they have been painting up. Each of these has come together really nicely indeed with relatively simple paint schemes.
These miniatures look fantastic and I love the amount of detail that has been captured here. The blue and grey work really well and I think it absolutely pops. I think it works equally well when you see it alongside the basing style that noyjatat has gone for.
It is cool seeing how noyjatat has picked and chose where to place those spot colours. It would have been very easy to leave them mostly grey and only do a bit of blue here and there but I think the bold choices help push these to the next level. It looks even better with the addition of more spot colours like bright green.
I think the thing that works particularly well here is that it is going to be immediately recognisable which miniatures belong to noyjatat during gameplay. They are going to stand out really nicely and look great when in the midst of battle. A solid scheme that I think would be fun to replicate in different ways with alternative colours.
Gorkamorka Muties by andre77
Next up, we're taking a look at something additional from andre77's Gorkamorka project. Whilst we often see Orks from this, it is also cool to see a few more factions popping up too. For example, how about these speedy mutants on their sprinting alien beasts?
I think these look great and have come together with a nice bit of kitbashing across a variety of different kits. You could imagine that these Muties could end up clashing with Orks and Grots on some distant world, perhaps interfering with their races and fights for control of the planet.
The green of the alien beasts works well against the orange and yellow of the Muties. I also like that there is soooo much variety within the different characters here. There are lots of twisted bodies, strange eldritch-looking weapons and off-the-wall mutations too. I love the chap with the eye stalks for example.
These look like they could have popped up in "The Hills Have Eyes" via the grimdark of the Warhammer 40,000 world. As well as being a nice addition to a Gorkamorka themed world they would be great to drop into the mix alongside a regular Chaos force.
Moonstone by irishsteve
As well as these trips into the world of Sci-Fi we also have a look back at more of the stunning work by irishsteve for the world of Moonstone. Here we have even more characters that have been painted up perfectly.
I absolutely love all the detail that gets picked out in these schemes. I think the choice of colour is great and I love how it all melds together really well. The miniatures feel warm and inviting, leaning on that whimsical Moonstone vibe whilst also adding in that additional bit of Fantasy spice.
You also have stunning work like here on the miniatures you see above. I love those shimmering eyes on that lovable pooch and it goes to the next level when you see the armour on the rider. What a great way to show off rust and damage on a piece of armour.
Lastly, we have one of the most recent miniatures from irishsteve. This fellow is entirely different once again and goes from the whimsical to the more realistic looking - at least when it comes to colours.
Some really fascinating miniatures perfect for those wanting to dive into a range that is entirely different from others out there. Moonstone and Malifaux are great games for hobbyists and painters who want to step beyond the bounds of traditional genres.
