Community Spotlight: A Penitent Crusade, Oddballs & Warmachine Returns!
March 22, 2023 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Penitent Crusade by guillotine
We start off with something awesome that totally ticks a bunch of boxes for me. guillotine has been tinkering away at painting some grimdark miniatures to be used as part of their Penitent Crusade!
These miniatures have come out of Bestiarum Miniatures which we've previously looked at as part of our 3D Printing Is The S**t! segment on The Weekender. They have a stunning range of miniatures which are very much inspired by the likes of Dark Souls, Elden Ring and video games of that ilk. guillotine has clearly been inspired and dived into painting up quite a lot of miniatures from this range.
I really like the scheme that guillotine has gone for with this set of miniatures. The colours chosen are grim and horrible but with a touch of something here and there to make them pop. The miniatures have a particularly Rennaisance look to them; as if they have crawled out of a painting and are now doing battle on the tabletop.
As a painting project, this is really nice and I like how the non-metallic metal has been used to keep that "painted" vibe going with the miniatures as a whole. Additionally, I tip my cap to guillotine on being reserved with the amount of blood they used. I think sparing use of blood makes your miniatures that little bit creepier!
Some amazing miniatures that have been painted up beautifully. Make sure to check out more on the project link above!
Oddball Sherman by CainanUK
Next up, we're looking at a quick project update from cainanuk who has been working on this awesome Bolt Action Oddball Sherman. Somewhere Justin is thinking about the best cosplay opportunity available to him...
I think the finished product here is just great and I like how so much detail has been worked into the tank. You've got plenty of dirt and grime alongside plenty of battered and weathered elements that have seen many years of war. I like that all the stowage and such has been picked out too.
The other side of the tank shows even more detailed work. You've got some stunning attention to detail on elements like the posters and of course, the two characters hunkering down on top of the tank. It's a really nice project that is, once again, nice and self-contained. Maybe this will inspire some folks to do something similar!
Warmachine MK4 by doctorether
Last but not least, we're having a look at doctorether who has been working away on those awesome new miniatures for Warmachine MK4. They got their hands on both the forces for Cygnar and Khador and have given them a lick of paint.
I love the poppy colours in play here and there is a distinctly classic feel to the miniatures here, reminding folks of how cool it is to paint up each of these factions. The mix of the blue and the metallics alongside that crackling lightning works so well for Cygnar and seems instantly inviting. I like how each of the Warjacks has been painted up in such a way that the colours seem to have been even billing across the miniatures.
The same goes for Khador and that intense red that you can see here on these miniatures. I love that they've got a little more "edge" to them though and you get a sense of Khador's darker side in their scheme. You certainly get the "brutal" and "intense" vibe that seems very on-brand for Khador. I also have to say that the basing looks lovely for both and works really nicely to complement each set.
Some great miniatures that, when stood next to each other, look really very cool! It is getting me excited for more awesomeness with Warmachine and seeing what people do with the other factions like Dusk House Kallyss.

Zero Negative Waves baby!
Great stuff from all three. Well deserved accolades! ???
I am genuinely honoured! Thank you!
While I am a big Warmachine fan, that Oddball Sherman really does it for me as a long time fan of Kelly’s Heroes 🙂
