Community Spotlight: 40K Battles, Night Folk & Polish Armies
December 15, 2021 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
40K Battle Report by robinquigleymini
The first of the projects we're looking at today comes from robinquigleymini who is returning to Warhammer 40,000 after a long time. After a fourteen-year hiatus they are back playing the new edition and plan to explore the game through battle reports. We do love a battle report.
Space Wolves are at the heart of their collection and as you can see, they have a pretty awesome set of miniatures already. So, they took to the tabletop against our very own Shay in order to learn the ropes against his Tyranids!
I love it when you get to see a bunch of painted miniatures battling it out on the tabletop. When you've got solid-looking terrain (like ours haha) and the miniatures at the ready it takes things to the next level. It also means that people get super excited about taking pictures!
I love when you get these big action shots like this one where monstrous beasts end up clashing with feral Space Wolves.
The project itself features a lot of different army lists that have been worked on and tweaked. This is going to continue (hopefully!) in the near future with more battle reports and army lists showcasing the different games that await robinquigleymini.
It would be neat to get some narrative into the mix as well. I love hearing about the big characters that armies start to build up as an army plays more games. I can't wait to see more from this project in the near future.
The Night Folk by demonsub
The next person we're going to be looking at is demonsub. They have been painting up the awesome Night Folk miniatures from the lovely people at Northumbrian Tin Soldier. These characters are incredibly charming.
All of these characters have come to life over the last few months. It's neat to see the mix of bright and poppy colours alongside more earthy tones. You get a really fae look to the collection which is perfect for those telling fairytale stories on the tabletop.
This gets all the more fascinating when you explore more of their range including this awesome fellow who has captured a poor fairy!
There are also some close-ups of more of the miniatures from this range as part of the project. Here we have the sneaky Slicer who is stalking in the shadows.
You could use these when you're diving into all manner of different games. They would be great for all manner of whimsical Fantasy games and perhaps alongside something like Moonstone too. What do you make of these wonderful little fae folk?
Polish & Lithuanians by FOGH
The last of the projects we're looking at is from FOGH who has been painting up some Polish & Lithuanian soldiers for use in games of Pike & Shotte. The soldiers are based on the period of the 1620s and this collection also features loads of research too.
This is a seriously in-depth project where each of the miniatures that gets added to the army is followed by lots of information about how they fit in. That includes plenty of research on each, how and why they fought and what use they will be on the battlefield.
Again, as is the case with a lot of this period, I don't know much about it. So, it was cool reading through this and learning more about an army, a theatre of war and more that is a lot different from the norm.
I loved the look at these newest miniatures, the Polish Haiduks. It's neat to see this splash of blue and red in the collection and they really draw the eye. If you're interested in playing something different then I would recommend checking out this project.

Great work all round. Congratulations ???
really appreciate that nice blend of choices, historical very fine addition. to quote martin landau on winning the award for portraying ed wood, he was the only actor who had to be a real person.
Thanks for the golden button. Looks like I’m in great company this week with two other fantastic projects.
Well done all, congratulations. Seeing those Tyranids on the table make me want to go and find mine, they haven’t seen the light of day for many years.
