Team Yankee Command School: Germans Vs Soviets Demo Game
February 9, 2017 by dignity
It's time to buckle your seat belts, get out your snacks and sit back as this is the ultimate Demo Game for Team Yankee Command School.
Over the past few weeks, we've been getting to grips with the rules and tactics involved with each faction as well as the individual units and ways to utilise the tabletop. It's time to put them to the test in this match of John Vs Justin.

Too long for a single lunch break …
Sick day?
Ohhhhhhh yeah! On my way to work to sit in an office all day and crunch boring spreadsheets. Now I know what will be playing in my headphones! 🙂
I really enjoyed watching this – the dilemmas one faces with high value units that have few vehicles.
My take on it – John might have been better with dismounted infantry in his initial deployment supporting the tanks. The Milan and panzerfausts could have given the T72’s something to worry about.
It would be facinating to see a game with about double the points – yes the Soviets would have even more units but the Germans could beef up their platoons/companies so they did not break so easily.
I hate it when the tanks are bumper to bumper like that. It gives me 40K flashbacks.
No just the same old tactics nearly everyone seems to use no matter which Battlefront game is being played
I know what you mean. It’s due to artillery being to ineffective against tanks i think. Whether this is “historically” correct or not, strong templates (or other effects that scale on how close you are to each other) make you spread out. With the addition of really heavy artillery and bombers in FoW WW2 Late (Late) Ware (like AT 6, FP 1+) everybody is spreading like crazy. We applied some of this to Team Yankee and play it in 6mm (1 inch = 1cm) and it works like a charm. Everybody is spreading out (a least a little) and it… Read more »
Part of the problem is the fact that you have to stay within 6″ of your unit leader or suffer significant penalties to movement and shooting. When your tanks are 1″ wide and you have as many as ten of them in a unit, things can get crowded around that unit leader. It’s better for small units (like John’s GepardsFlakpanzers or units of three Leopard 2s.
Also: that’s a really small table for a Team Yankee Game, especially one with that many models.
I enjoy watching the maneuvers and counter-maneuvers of this game. But the dice rolling seems a bit sluggish somehow. Still it’s a good battle report. Nice camera angles and lots of interesting developments.
Great to see Team Yankee get demoed. BUT, would a 6×4 not have been better ? It seemed very cramped on the table.
