Building The US Studio Gaming Table: Part One
January 19, 2018 by deltagamegirl22
Dawn and Gianna from the U.S. studio have taken a trip down to Julio's Woodshop to see first-hand how their new gaming table was made.
Julio Villarreal is a local (to the U.S. team) woodworker who single-handedly crafts gaming furniture at his Chicago based workshop.
In this three-part series, Julio takes us through his process of taking flat sheets of wood and transforming them into a gamer's centrepiece.
Is your gaming table due for an upgrade?
I am severely allergic to wood, and wish I could make my own gaming tables. This video was quite interesting for me as I could watch the build (which I find fascinating) without ending up in hospital (which is not fascinating).
how the hell do you live ? chairs ? pot handles , man that must be murder!
Sealed wood is fine. Bare wood is not. I had to quit a job once because I was handling plain cardboard boxes, and my hands were swelling. As with most allergies, you get used to avoiding some things.
Also, pot handles?
I find it so interesting how simple it looks but how crucial all the fine details are. So curious to see how it comes together into the final table 🙂 Az
reminds me of my cabinet making days, cherry and tulip wood make lovely looking tables, i miss my solid oak table i made for a skills demo 4’x4′ unit with 32sqft of storage built in…
Wish id worn ear defenders more often bloody spindle moulder and thicknesser trashed my hearing
festool as well, lovely tools very jealous of Julio’s tool chests you can see in the background @ 3:40
*big manly woodsman supportive hugs*
All this talk of other men handling wood has gotten Az frisky.
Everyone should have a Julio 😀 .
Makes me want to run out and build my own table. Possibly even change professions! Gratifying building things with your hands and being able to see the finished products.
This is one thing I always wanted to do when I was on the building site, never really got the time to do it, but ah well having seen this one up close the build quality is top notch. 🙂
Lovely job on the table, always nice to see a craftsman at work. Reminds me of watching The Old Yankee Workshop, with Norm who always seemed to have a power tool for everything.
fabulous looking table, the dominos were called biscuits over in the UK when I was learning joinery.
Damn good work Sir…
and it looks so easy lol… years of practice… to be able to make it look that good and this is just the start.
Always a joy to see a master at work, and here are the rest of us struggling with a flatpack from Ikea
The secret to ikea is to start with the biggest peice in the flat pack first, install all the hardware (apart from nails) and it will slot together, starting with the biggest peice as everything will hang off it….
