Building & Painting Frostgrave Gaming Terrain From Kromlech #FrostgraveWeekOTT
December 22, 2020 by dignity
The team show off how they got stuck into building and painting the Frostgrave tabletop gaming terrain from Kromlech so we can use it in our Let's Plays this week!
Frostgrave Books - Frostgrave Miniatures - Frostgrave Terrain
We look at how we started to put the buildings together plus getting stuck into the painting of each of the Kromlech terrain pieces that we're using for specific scenarios.

Are you going to take a shot at building this Kromlech terrain for your Frostgrave games?
That’s some impressive builds and the spay on snow is really effective
Looks great, I’m really impressed by the detail on the silent tower. Seeing it put together before being primed really shows off the details.
so i left a comment on youtube, now one here. how do i leave one in the cog area?
I think CoGs are automatically added to a pool but I may be wrong…. @avernos @brennon @lloyd ?
As @sundancer said – you’re automatically entered into the pool just by being a CoG Member who has commented.
ah … that’s cool (see what I did there?) 😀
Interesting to see the spray snow in action. I’ve always steered away from using snow effects on terrain because it limits the useability, but if this works and can be wipe-off, colour me interested.
PS: it really would be interesting to see whether the stuff *does* wipe off as expected!!
So many articles… which to comment on?! XD
all of them … 😀
I do like the Terrain. A little to much “graveyard” for my taste, tho. Maybe i just don’t understand enough of Frostgrave (and yes, i am aware its FrostGRAVE)
in this case it’s because one of the scenarios we played was set in a graveyard
Ahh, alright. I am curious, did you guys already try to remove the snow effect? And if not, do you plan a follow up? 🙂 Maybe even if its just a quick mention in one of the weekenders.
not yet, but when someone is back in the studio in January I’ll get them to give it a go
I’ve always been afraid of using snow effects on terrain and models, maybe I’ll finally try it out.
I never thought of the idea of using the spray on snow before. Wonderful idea.
That snow stuff sounds pretty good. I wonder if it can be preserved so its still prerry years later, and if so, can we get a Gerry (spray)Can?
Very impressive builds.
Impressive timing, I was looking at Kromlech earlier today, considering making a frostgrave table for next year. Thought the tower looked a bit less impressive than I’d like, but I can now see that I was very wrong about that…
Would spray can cream work?
yes, or spray cheese but then you would have yellow snow
The spray snow is a good idea, have to try it.
Great choice of pallet for these kits. I already did a load of bodged together terrain for this game, but the Kromlech scenario specific stuff looks great. Looking forward to the lets plays.
Great starting feature for this game, feel getting the terrain made really helps in the immersion on a game like this. Wintry terrain a lot less common.
I love the Kromlech kits for Frostgrave. This is the first I have been exposed to them. They are great. The battlefield is looking awesome and I love the Silent Tower and the way it will be adding multiple playing levels to the game. Keep up the great work (Color choice went the right direction, not all wizards like to live in emo grey, some love them some color).
Nice table so far! I love the difference when making frostgrave terrain compared to ‘normal’ games, it looks more realistic having loads on the table.
Good idea with the spray snow!
Terrain came out great, looking forward to seeing it in action.
How was it to put together?
I think the only disappointing thing about this Vlog was how high the Starship reference seemed to fly over Justins head 🙂
Justin did the big stuff, the ruins I built went together easily even the double walled stuff. They had offset mortice and tenon joints to help align the different walls correctly so it was easy going. I imagine the larger pieces were similar the main tower had 3 layers in places for depth otherwise business as usual
As usual: great pratical content! Keep it up!
On a side note, I have never played Frostgrave and am die hard fan of Mordheim. Are they any similar?
I’m in a similar spot Bighagar. I tracked down some games on Youtube and it seems like the two have a very similar feel but with some key differences. From what I’ve seen so far :
1. You only advance your wizard (and by extension their apprentice). All other troops are only “upgraded” by replacement with higher tier troops
2. There’s no requirement to drive off your opponents force (though you can)
3. Random unaligned monsters abound.
So far it seems like a really fun game. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week to learn more.
yeah pretty much Bali has it covered. The only important people in the warband that need to track their level are the casters, you can’t level up minions which may be a deal breaker to some.
However you can get magic items and equipment for your motley crew so there is some play there.
Scenarios are more important than kills and worth more XP, of course you can win the scenario by making sure there is no one left to oppose you
Wandering Monsters are fun 🙂
Thank you, bali.
Also, just saw the solo game from Justin.
Helped a lot.
Cheers
That terrain is tempting. And you can never have too many ruins to put on your table.
the town ruins and city ruin packs give an amazing amount of coverage
Liking the look of the table, am waiting to see if the snow spray does wipe off
That is some sweet terrain. Love the snow effect cheat.
Like that Silent Tower. Be great for RPG and skirmish… but it looks a pain to store due to the size.
Does the main tower break down in smaller pieces (separate floors)?
yep every floor of both towers breaks down and the stone archway that connects the two towers is modular and removalable. Only the tudor house is one piece and has to be stored as such… I assume, Justin built that so it came all glued together, but I think that’s right
Very nice.
