How To Build The Dark Age Gaming Table
April 28, 2016 by lloyd
Dark Age week approaches, we follow John on a recent project he's been working on.
John has been working hard to show us how he constructed and planned the table that would eventually find it's way to the front lines of Dark Age.
We hope you're ready for an awesome week of Dark Age from Cool Mini or Not.
What do you think of the table?

Awesome! I can’t wait for the Dark Age week!
It will not disappoint!
That terrain is looking incredible.
Dark age is one of those games where I’ve been admiring the minis for a while now, but otherwise know nothing about it. I’m looking forward to learning more.
It is tremendous fun @erastus wait for the demo game it’s a blast 🙂
As one of the writers/developers of Dark Age… I am VERY excited to see what you guys have in store for our game. This is going to be a helluva good week.
Cheers!
Bry
Welcome over Bryan!
Terrain… so… beautiful… *collapses into terrain coma*
Have u woke up yet??? 😉 lol
Stunning stuff. Bravo lads…. correction, John!
Vision counts for so little these days 😉
Funnily enough I was just looking at some of that Warmill terrain for a Cybertronic themed table for Warzone (which would have a nice dual purpose since it totally reminds me of Mass Effect). Just got to scrap the cash together to buy more of it.
I have a SERIOUS MDF problem 🙂
WarMill absolutely nailed it with this set, it’s shockingly well thought out 🙂
Very nicely done John! Excellent stuff.
Beautiful looking table! Great great work guys, and especially John.
Awesome glad to see warmill stuff on BOW and what an amazing display to boot, great vlog guys :). The HiStack terrain was my first nomination for the 2015 rewards.
That is an incredible build! Great work Jon!
You’d be hard pressed thinking of a sci-fi game that wouldn’t fit in with this table, my mind went straight to inq28 or rogue trader.
*gets credit from wallet.
when priming the HDF or MDF; how do you stop it soaking up the paint and expanding? Also great work as usual guys.
I think it’s all about the primer. John has obviously achieved a good result from.. shall way say.. ‘layers’ of primer and I have had good results with a shellac based primer (though given the relative difficulty of working with it I can’t say that it is ‘better’ than using lots of regular primer).
Terrain looks amazing! It’s really great to see the journey from opening the boxes to the finished terrain.
Love that dark age is being looked at and can’t wait for the hinted at demo game to be released.
I have to admit I clicked on to this expecting to see longhouses
i know thats what i was thinking:-)
lol
I will start pushing it up the list!
Really looking forward to this. Love the look of the game!
Does any online carry all of it in Europe?
A number carry Dark Age:
Element Games
Wayland Games
Empire Games
Twisted Pinnacle
Games Of War
Travelling Man
although I have very little knowledge of dark age the table @johnlyons put together is superb well done:-)
That’s an amazing table, great work John 🙂
Amazing job John! Looks awesome. I bet you’re all itching to play games on it.
How long did it take all up?
Great looking table
That table is freaking awesome. It’s all the added extras that really bring it to life. The robot parts, the MAS crate stacks but especially the canvas canopies (totes going to steal that, thanks John). Just stunning, super excited for Dark Age week now. Spookily enough, played my first game of Dark Age yesterday and really enjoyed it. Another game to get my teeth into.
@John you have best job ever! cracking peace of terrain.
Excellent work!
That’s a great looking table. I particularly like how you made use of the loops in the buildings to place the canope poles. Also nice that the terrain set allows for that. It looks very good yet still fairly easy to play on.
Excellent work! I may have to get that kit for some AvP!
God… dam… brilliant.
A very Very BIG well don John
A table worth gaming on…
