Protect your expensive brushes by using cheap ones instead! I’ve read that metallics ruin expensive brushes, so that’s where cheap ones come in. Even a set of natural hair brushes are fine for washes, and can be used for priming and basecoats. Even without a good tip, if you can make a brush end to be a flat “chisel” shape, you can still paint blocked-off areas with a clean edge for basecoats.
