Black Seas Unboxing: L’Orient
November 8, 2019 by avernos
Gerry has been singing sea shanties this morning as he unboxes the French flagship: L'Orient.
Delve Into Black Seas @ Store.OnTableTop
An addition to Black Seas from Warlord Games, L'Orient is a part resin, part metal flagship with more than a few guns to aim at pesky enemy fleets. Gerry takes us through the metal components which despite showing few mould lines, may need some bending back into place. The resin cast of the ship is almost flawless though.
Do you think your French fleet is worth it?

In the words of Al Murray… ‘Oi… No french!!!’
I was pleasantly surprised that the Victory I bought was as well cast. It really is one of the nicest resin casts I have ever received from any company and certainly the best I have ever gotten from Warlord…
I do think the metal masts are going to be problematic though and transporting the boats is going to be a nightmare, rigged or not. Solutions on a postcard, please.
Drill some holes into the bottom of the ship, glue some magnets into the holes. Glue a metal sheet to the bottom of a box (I use Sally4th’s mdf boxes) and away you go.
That just might work, thanks, never thought of that.
This is a lovely looking kit. Great detail as well.
Who in their right mind would even attempt to rig these using cotton? Who actually has that much time and patience in their life?
And I’ve seen where metal miniatures are not better than plastic – when you can’t tell what’s flash and what’s part of the kit! I’d almost certainly end up trimming some of the mast off by accident thinking it was flash. 🙂
Impressive resin kit but a little disappointed with how much flash is on the metal parts.
Fortunately it looks like the flash is easy to remove.
I wonder if the fact that we see the ship from behind has any meaning… are they running away? 😉
HAHA! I am so glad I watched this to the end.
Well guess I’ll be using my OTT voucher on black seas…it was always going to happen.
I’m not interested in the game, but I’d enjoy building and painting that anyway.
she looks fantastic are all the larger ships resin an metal masted.
@zorg as far as I have seen and read, the bigger ships are all going to be resins and metal.
Thanks.
Really liking this game and I’ve never been a fan of naval games
I’d love to see this made up. There’s a bit of moaning on FB about the metal masts, but from what I’ve seen it just looks like the normal issues with metal/resins tolerances vs the tolerances on hard plastic kits. It would be interesting to see John or Jerry assemble it though to be sure.
