Gerry and Lance take to the high seas for some naval combat in Black Seas from Warlord Games.

Gerry and 3rd dimension, could be son are navigating the cruel tides surrounding a lonely island when they both come face to face with one another, they're vicious enemies at heart and it's time for battle!
This is our first game of Black Seas, some rules such as terrain are excluded but we make sure to include as much as we can to get you ready to learn and begin your first game at home.
We'd suggest not learning the terrain rules and watching this game, otherwise we'd all be fighting on the island by turn two.
Who comes out the victor in this one and who's been ransacking the rum?

Oh heck we get to see the mighty Lance hi @lancorz
beginning:Damn Gerry is really good at this.
Middle: Lance is gone he’s gonna beach his ships
End: How the hell did that happen…
You must have offended the dice gods Gerry. Either that or Lance is their chosen and we must appease him
as you’ve already done Rorke’s drift is the next stop Trafalgar
Ships look great. Seems simple enough to have a fun game and not get too bogged down. Good stuff!
there’s 3 levels of rules, so you can add in the stuff you want and make it as simple or complicated as you want.
Great game. Looks fun. Looking forward to my copy arriving. I like that you can make the game as difficult as you lie and I agree with keeping the wake card off the table. It looks a lot better without.
A fabulous well fired? up game guy’s.
Excellent let’s play. Exciting and covered the basics and other stuff pretty well. Good to see not a massive fleet but would like to have non equal fleets. I.e. 4 small vs 2 large ships.
it’s definitely doable, you have points values and could go bear hunting with your wolf pack if you want to.
Really enjoyed the vid and the ships look amazing.
Whilst I appreciate that this is a’fun’ game, it is a common ‘lay person’s’ understanding that the direction of the wind coming from directly astern would give the fastest speed for the ship, it is when the wind is coming from the stern quarter! (Why? Because the rearmost sail would be masking the one ahead of it, thus reducing the area of sail exposed to the wind). The sails are able to be angled in relation to the long axis of the ship, they are not just fixed at right angles to it! Secondly, I think the wake markers can… Read more »
yes, I as said there are more realistic wind rules in the advanced rules section, and I can see fans of naval combat wanting those rules in the game. I’m not and to me it would bog the game down especially with larger fleets.
I haven’t seen anything in the basic rules about the wake markers so it’s possible it’s in the advanced boat rules or I may just have missed it.
@avernos I’m still having to be wafted with a feather over you doing a naval game!
Obviously a job thing!
See you got around that daft and unnecessary wake markers, I’ve watched a few playthroughs now and are always giving grief, why don’t Warlord spot these things? They had the same problem with Blood Red Sky’s where the move gauge was practically unusable. For a simple method of showing speed you could use the activation markers to donate speed, might make activation tokens up with 1,2 or 3 sails on them.
Thanks guys I was just going to dabble in a little Quasi War and 1812, but now I will end up whole hog. At least the black and white hulls should be easy to paint. My FLGS is going to stock and he knows I am a sucker so there goes my budget plan of slowing down my plastic addiction.
@avernos the ships really do look nice but they do lack a little by not being rigged. 🙂
Britain Vs US. Proper Master and commander
I think the lack of rigging really shows off the decking to it’s fullest ;P
I would like to know if they are stronger rigged v not rigged. Might be worth a comparison.
maybe John can rig some and compare them to my unrigged boats 😉
Everyone needs a @johnlyons
Looking forward to this. Looks like a fun game. One question – where did you get or how did you make the fiery cotton wool?
Some of it is included in the core set.
it comes with the game, along with white and black smoke
Can’t wait to get my hands on this stuff, never tried naval wargaming before so I’m really excited at the prospect…
Enjoyed watching that. How did Lance win? From the off it looked Gerry all the way.
Great game there with just 3 ships a side. Hope you’ll be doing more with some larger fleets too.
Seeing them next to each other like that makes me wonder, is Gerry Lances pokemon evolution form?
