Beasts of War Hit Terrestrial and Sky TV!
August 27, 2011 by beerogre
That's right, if you can't catch Beasts of War online, then you will soon be able to tune in using your Sky TV or Free to Air box.
You won't need a Sky subscription and the signal is available across most of Europe.
Thanks to the unwavering support of our sponsors (in particular Wayland Games), fans and Backstage Pass holders, we've seized the opportunity to take our own brand of wargaming TV to the commercial airwaves.
This is part of our continued commitment to take our hobby to the mainstream. We have big plans for TV and with your continued support we know we can blow the world of tabletop gaming wide open... erm... one TV set at a time!
Check out TURN 8 tonight for more info and brainstorming on this unprecedented opportunity and find out how you can get involved and support our flagship show... and the others that will soon follow.
So tell us. What would you love to see on TV?

LIVE BATTLE REPORTS. that would be something different for a TV show.
I second this live battle report suggestion and more lol.
This is brilliant news and I can’t wait to see what comes out of this epic turn of events!
That would be so cool and then rerun them on here for people that don’t have sky or missed it due to work etc.
With 2 British commentators like they have with Starcraft in Korea.
Pllaaaggguuuu!
I knew joining backstage was a wise decision.
You guys are the new leaders of tabletop gaming, let the mainstream revolution begin 😛
what channel number(s) is it going to be on and will it be your own CHANNEL or your own SHOW?
We’ll be announcing all that in the next week or too. We’re kicking off with one or more TV Shows, ofcourse not on SKY 1 (Yet), but its a start and we have certainly the Tools, Talent and Ambition to try and take this as big as we can – the hobby deserves it 🙂
We have Xplay for video games…now Beasts of War for Table Top Gaming…bring on the awesome. Would love to see lots of interviews with game companies and miniature makers.
For those of us who don’t own a TV will the content be put up on the website as well?
No TV? *shock horror*
Does not compute!
What…..WHAT? I can watch beats of War on TV? *faints*
Also could you make sure Darrels keeps his clothes on – my parents have a HD TV and there are sometings that should never be in HD.
Here’s to BoW the best wargaming news place around!
This is rather astounding.
I’d like to see Darrell playing a game , cheese , ruthlessness and all intact, I’ve never been to a tournament, and play for kicks with a few mates , the whole ‘must win’ culture is kind of alien to me, even though I appreciate you need to be like that to win these competitions, so I’d love to see it first hand.
But not if hes wearing a nappy again.
I don’t know if this si what got you all into trouble with youtube, but going through the different trop types in a given army list was really great. If GW are too protective how about going through the Infinity lists or the Warmachine characters?
Just a run down on how to use them, where they fit in well, where not so well? Andy did some excellent vids on the warmachine starter boxes and some fo the Wrath units – it’d be really good to see those discussed ‘in game’ perhaps with a battle report using that said feature/feat?
However, whatever you d please, please I beg of you, no Darrelstation antics!
I’m optimistic. I think you guys are the right people for the job. Honestly, is any other wargaming site tried something like this, it would end up as some kind of epic disaster. You’d end up with either A) How to be a WAAC gamer, hosted by the world’s biggest d’bags, or B) The We Hate Everything Show…hosted by old fat people who spend the entire show going over the finer points of GW’s last financial statement.
Horray for BoW
Absolutely amazing news, this will help push Wargaming into the mainstream more and will very likely help out smaller companies and give them more recognition. This can only be a good thing.
Oh wow this is amazing news, really well done for flying the flag!!! Although I second the comment about maybe never launching a BoW HD channel Darrell’s underpants could hinder the mainstream appeal of wargaming!
Ambitious. And potentially awesomely cool. Battle reports sound interesting if well presented/commented. And the gamers need to be able to play a good pace so that it doesn´t get too tedious (if you you have live coverage). (live ) Painting sessions, event coverages certainly. You could collaborate with the History Channel to do documentaries on historical topics and how to deal with them in Tabletop terms (one can dream…). Live readings of Fantasy/Sci fi novels by the respective authors. Behind the scenes documentaries of the gaming companies. Well, that are the first things that come to my mind.
Paintshop classes, if Romain is up for the challenge, Terrain building (on a smaller scale), and cute female gamers 🙂
This is great news! I’m a bit slow on some things, I’m Canadian Ah! Is Sky TV only in Europe? Im in Toronto Canada and never herd of sky tv. I guess I’m gona be left in the dark ages 🙁 I’ll go cry in the corner now!
Excellent news – hat’s off to all the crew at BoW for your constant hard work. Unless you really know how much goes into producing quality productions, you’d think this lot are just having a laugh. The secret is working hard and still having fun. Looking forward to setting my digi box and lining up a whole evenings worth of BoWHDTV. 🙂
WOW guys, seriously I’ve been impressed with progress so far but this is the best news in the industry in a long time. I don’t watch much TV but i’d sure tune in to that. unboxing, painting, interviews, doing example games like infinity would all work well I think.
picks jaw off floor…..
I have no idea what sky tv or free to air boxes are, but the AC/DC makes this story relevant to my interests.
Free to Air is just Freeview in the UK pretty much. Digitial channels.
so i will be able to watch it on a standard set-top box?
I would like to see boobies.
Oh and excellent job guys, livin’ the dream.
OMG!!! i LOVE YOU GUYS BEYOND MORTAL COMPREHENSION!!!!!!!!!! ‘Ahem’ thanks, you rock btw.
I wonder if it’s with information.tv/Showcase. That’s where most of the video game shows in the UK tend to be and they have quite affordable rates.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!
HELL YEEAAH!!! 😀 😀 😀
Great news guys, really great news!1
I hope this works for me out on the beaches of California.
Amazing news. Are you going to do new stuff or just a compilations of that’s weeks videos?
Will it be like a tabletop games master with Darrell as Patrick moore’s part or do it like tabletop gear
Woah that is big news o_O
Romain to star in a long running soap, “Paintin Place”!
Amazing, could make wargaming huuge
OMFG BoW you BAMF! loving this idea :’) now I’m going to have to watch the recorded turn because I missed it
Wow, interesting development this! Good luck!
As for what I’d like to see:
– A focus on “intro” content… a lot of your viewers will not have seen any sort of wargaming content before, so you really need to present it in a way that isn’t intimidating to the audience. Have a look the way the various video game shows do things, and bring plenty of your production values.
– Scripted content. Seat-of-your-pants is okay for youtube videos, but for TV, you’re going to have to script something, shoot it, see how it turns out, then discuss whether it comes across as too long-winded etc. and then shoot it again and again until you get it “polished”. Your graphics and things are already TV-quality, but your personal presentation isn’t… I once tuned into your turn 8 show for the warpath info and was presented with 2 hours of delays followed by half an hour of you guys drinking beer out of a pee bottle before the show actually started.. at midnight. That was a major disappointment and left me with a very negative view of your entire operation.
– Lots of short snippets seems to be a better approach than longer videos for general casual TV like this… a 3-minute interview, then a quick painting guide, maybe a battle report.
– At least one lady might be good, as long as she is actually interested in gaming or RPGs, and is not just there for random eye candy.
– Did you guys ever watch the TV show “Time Commanders” when it was on BBC 2 about 10 years ago? This was basically a show that was one giant 45-minute-long wargaming battle report, done with computer software on a big screen and polished to a professional standard… miltary historians did commentaries, the players did their moves and this was depicted on-screen. It is also the *only* time I have ever seen the concept of wargaming presented on television.
+1 to this! I agree.
That’s a bit harsh! The amount of work that goes into producing the quality of videos BoW produce day after day is staggering.
Yeah, sometimes you get the odd delay. my only beef with that is the day the show runs on being Thursday with work tomorrow.
Time Commanders was great, but the time involved was a lot. A battle report works but it might be tricky. Personally I really liked watching Darrell/Andy/Warren/Justin talking about the units in an army, how to use them, strengths, weaknesses and how they’d use the army.
Seven Days of Sanguinius was just excellent, as as Grey Knight week, and Orc and Goblin week. I was hoping for one over the Tomb Kings… but spot light was good – just not enough!
Either way, same as it take an hour to produce ten seconds of good TV I think what BoW do, for free is excellent.
i just hope they dont make it all about warhammer put some historical minis in there as well
Somehow don’t think that will be the case Lynchy
You can see the diversity of Games News that BoW bring us.
As I don’t have a TV am more concerned about what happens to the site here and hope that the BoW guys will be able to maintain the great sense of community they have fostered.
We are 150% committed to this website and community – TV is secondary to here – period.
Thanks Warren
Good to hear
I have no TV of my own that can get a signal of any kind. Just got my parents, and I doubt they will let me watch BoW.
Shame i didn’t also pick up an airial during the riots…
Wow!
How many beers you go through a day, and how Darrell scams the OAP’s.
TV is a different format from what you guys are doing right now but I have no doubt that you will develop your production to fit into the new media. Looking forward to a “On the table” like show perhaps a little bit longer and a little bit deeper. Live 8 works drunk in the middle of the night but would not work on TV.
I have faith in you all BoW.
Battle reports, perhaps “paint along with John” sessions .
You should see if Blue Table painting and/or coolminiornot want to advertise on the channel.
OMG this is too awesome what channel number will it be?
Wow… kudos chaps 🙂
I’d like to see small scale battle reports and ‘table standard’ painting tips so that beginners dont feel they have to have a 3000pt ‘White Dwarf’ army to enjoy the hobby. Good luck with the TV show I hope its a big success.
I would like to see smaller scale battle reports so that beginners dont feel the need to have a 2000 point army before they get started. Good luck with the TV show, I hope its a big success.
you gonna wanna show how to make terrain and show the toys side of the hobby airfix have come back in a big way
Airfix aren’t toys 😛
Scale aircraft modelling is a serious business
Lovingly crafted replicas of well researched subjects.
Painstaking scratchbuilding in 1/72 scale takes a lot of patience and skill.
Only then can you run around the house holding the replica aloft making aeroplane noises.
Meant also to say I would certainly welcome some modelling content
Sports like tournaments.
We could open up the season with massed open tournament play. Then say 22 players then go through to make up 1st division, who then go on to play 1 game every week and have a sort of football style presentation. Then there could be minor league under that, relegation zones. Players could pick up personal sponsors and first division could pick up a sponsor too. You could even do clubs say 4 man teams play each other and then one side will win or they will draw. And then clubs could get sponsors instead of individual players. Something like Wayland Cup, if wayland are willing to invest Or even Champions league, or something more wargaming like. You could show all the games and then have a saturday night round up with Gary Linekar (what that show called?) Type thing.
Just an Idea, but the sports industry is big so they must be doing something right.
My only question is are you going to post the content up on the site as well or make the shows available in the US? as i live smack in the middle of the US (Missouri)
I would like to see the content to be offered for free shown for free commercials intact online. Since I like somany others on here won’t be able to see the show any other way.
As far as content seeing that you have the web set up nicly you use that to your advantage to do more devloper interviews and live tourny reports. You have a great opportunity to bring new people into the gaming world congrats and I wish you success.
Awesome guys! Hahah Jeremy Clarkson voice. “IN……THE WORLD!” Live battle reports, with nice close up HD cameras. Wow that would be more entertaining than pool or bowling that’s for sure. 😀 Actually… More entertaining than Poker as well.
Woah! What id like to see with 40k;
-Live battle reports
-Miniture painting, tips and even live competitions for speed painting
-Gameplay tips, streamlined and put into an episode or passively before advert breaks
-Torniment coverage
-Advanced tips like gameplan, target priority and unit synergy and perhaps some tips from the darker side like cheese and rule shenanigans
-General screwing around with 40k
This sounds great, something i can put on tv while doing conversions and painting and have a laugh about at the same time. Man it would be amazing if you one day you did a live campaign against an enemy team, heh like the yanks over at miniwargaming.
Oh! And be carefull when using rules on tv so you dont get flamed, as in make sure to read the GW faq’s and INATFAQ for good measure. Good look guys!
Will this be available on virgin as well?
Paintshop classes,by Romain wow yes plzz
Sweet!
@warzan
you could do a challenge BoW segment where a member of the community gets the chance to go up against one of you in a head to head or team battle of any of the systems and maybe give them a prize/trophy if they win.
anyone remember that show a few years ago that was basically a part of the Total War series as a game show where people re-enacted ancient battles, that was soooo cool, you could do something similar on the show
why not on virgin????? i don’t have freeview, sky or crappy freesat………
