Battle For Xilos – Beyond The Gates Of Antares Campaign Is Live
June 21, 2016 by lancorz
We've been working with Warlord Games to bring you another fantastic campaign. This time it's based within the Sci-Fi world of Beyond The Gates of Antares where you're going to be fighting the Battle For Xilos in an episodic style over six weeks.
So what's this new campaign all about?
"As you probably guessed the campaign is strongly linked with the new Battle for Xilos Supplement for Gates of Antares. It follows the same story described in the supplement (that originally started in the main rulebook) and the outcome of the campaign will become official history in the game background – so this really is your chance to make your mark on the Antares universe!
Having a copy of the supplement is not essential but will definitely enhance your enjoyment of the campaign!"
You can find out more over on the website where we go into more detail about how the Episodes are going to work, what the Strategic Overview is, how you submit your Battle Reports and exactly what happens when you do something awesome - yes there are achievements and such built into the campaign platform!
Key to this are a few links you might want to check out...
- Help & How To - Get answers to all of your questions if you're new to playing a campaign using this platform.
- Rules & Documents Download - Pick up all the rules you need for playing out battles and learn more about the history of Xilos.
Talking of the story you might be interested in checking out this link HERE where you can learn about how this all kicked off.
As you can see on the map below the Episodes will have you fighting across the island on Xilos and battling your way up from the Landing Zones, through the lush jungles towards the final episode and the Stasis Chambers.
Importantly you should remember that the Episodes from each week WILL influence what is happening in future engagements so you should consider making sure your Battle Reports are all uploaded so you can help in the battles to come.

Which faction are you going to be fighting for and if you're already taking up arms how has the battle gone so far?

This will be very interesting to follow =)
Agreed 🙂
I’m really looking forward to see how the episodical approach pans out for the guys playing this, especially as earlier episodes can come back into play later in the campaign 🙂
Not quite sure why a global campaign for this system, the miniatures are horrific, its like something sculpted in the 80’s the system may be ok, but warlord need to update their sculptors to keep pace with modern techniques and style.
Yeah, the poor miniatures is what is keeping me away.
I like that they are fairly basic. It’s a nice change from the overwrought design of GW’s miniatures and all the other companies that are following suit.
There are no issues with the sculptors, one of the leads is also responsible for the guildball range, its an aesthetic choice which you may not like, doesn’t make the minis bad.
I’m looking forward to following this one. The game looks interesting and I very much like the art direction for the minis, It puts me in mind of grand space opera from the 60’s and 70’s.
Alas, I can’t afford to start a new game at the moment. But when I can, this one is at the top of the list. Luck in battle to everyone who takes part!
So excited about Gates of Antares right now! I hope to find time next week to play a game for the online campaign, gotta support my Ghar bros.
This is a very cool game, and love what you guys are doing to promote and get people more excited about it. Love the campaign, keep up the good work @warzan
I will go with the mighty Ghar Empire! Hopefully my recently purchased Starter Set Xilos Horizon will be arriving at the end of this week, so that i can spread the word of the Ghar onto the planetside of the Xilos island :)!
just purchased the starter box and both starter armies for ghar and concord. Just need to paint them up, build a board, and get some terrain…. then I will be ready to play.
Not entirely certain of the wisdom and fairness of doing a campaign for a game as young as Gates of Antares, I mean most of the factions don’t even have an equal range of models. The Condord and Ghar would have overwhelming advantages here based on pure accessibility of models, while factions like the Sentex would be at massive disadvantages because they don’t have the model range of other factions.
A campaign for this game is interesting, but I just feel like maybe it should have waited until there were more (and cheaper) models for all factions.
We are developing the warconsole platform to ultimately make it easier for games at almost any stage or level of popularity to have fun campaigns, (large or small – simple or complex)
We hope in time to be able to give more communities the opportunity to enjoy their games with this 🙂
I think developing this platform to be usable for all games/systems is a great idea. Also, if you can’t take part in the campaign, it does prove to be interesting following along with it.
The previous Infinity campaign has given me a few ideas. I plan on shamelessly nicking them for a Blood Eagle campaign I’ll be running soon. Nicely done chaps.
Hey, if you’re posting batreps or anything of the sort for that Blood Eagle campaign, please let me know! I’ve been dabbling in the game and would love to see how someone would structure a campaign. I don’t really have anyone to play with over here, unfortunately.
Leaving another comment so I can follow replies. Forgot to click that the first time.
I hadn’t considered posting anything, but now you’ve mentioned it I’ll speak to the other players and see what they think.
With regards to the structure of the campaign, we’ll be following the standard rules within the book. Just ramping up the narrative structure and not worrying too much about points cost. I’ll let you know if I post a bat-rep.
I think the idea might be to try and drive interest in the product up. More players means more money in the coffers, and the more money they have the sooner we’ll see those missing units and plastic kits.
I have played my first game in this and I am having a blast. i even had a win whichis odd as sci fi games usually aren’t my forte. Thanks warren and the Beasts of war team for hosting this it has inspired me to crack a few boxes open and get stuck in. The achievement battle reports etc are all fun too. Let me just repeat myself here.; I’m having a blast =)
Plays well, great fluff……written with passion…The xilo book is a lovely style…..
Antares is shaping up to be a great game, and this campaign seems to be driving it in a very positive direction. The models aren’t flashy for the most part but have their own distinct style and get the job done admirably, but the place where the game really shines is its excellent rule set and highly effective hard(ish) sci fi setting. I look forward to seeing more.
Great to see more campaigns on BoW. Thanks for your efforts, guys!
