Bandai Announce New Gundam Miniatures Game Coming This Year
January 6, 2025 by brennon
Bandai announced that they will be going for miniature wargames in earnest this year with a new miniatures game coming out later this year. Gundam Assemble is on the horizon and we've already got a trailer and a few more details about the miniatures.
Gundam Assemble // Bandai
Gundam Assemble will be a tabletop game that uses 2-inch-sized (5cm) Gunpla miniatures for you to do battle on the tabletop. From the description on the Gundam Assemble website...
"Each unit has abilities that reflect their unique characteristics, allowing players to enjoy scenarios that follow the original story, or diverge into situations that transcend the world of Mobile Suit Gundam series; thus providing both a sense of recreation and distinct battles."
As well as the information, we also got to see a bit of gameplay from the trailer (see above). It looks like it's going to be d10-based and will make use of a hex grid for movement; pretty standard for a mech-based game and makes a lot of sense.

You can also see some of the kits in the background for the new miniatures that will be a part of this range. They certainly look quick and easy to assemble and in bare grey plastic so you'll be cracking out all the paints to get these ready for the tabletop.

Plamo Times and Tales Of A Tabletop Skirmisher also did a bit of digging and it looks like there is going to be a selection of Starter Sets coming later this year. They are as follows...
- Heroic Beginnings Set (RX-78-2, Gundam Aerial, and ???)
- Wings of Advance Set (Wing Gundam, Tallgeese, and ???)
- Zeon's Rush Set (Char's Zaku II, Sinanju, and ???)
- SEED Strike Set (Aile Strike Gundam, Aegis Gundam, and ???)
I would assume that that means there will be quite a few sets aimed at particular popular series/shows but I'll need our resident Gundam nerds to add some clarification on that. Sound the horn and call for John and Shay!

Once again, you'll have to forgive my ignorance of what all of that means but in the grand scheme of things, it means Bandai isn't slouching when it comes to Gundam Assemble. From the rumours at least, it seems like they are going to be revealing a lot of miniatures for the game to make it worth diving into and expanding.
Miniatures // Gundam Assemble
You can see some of the miniatures here. It should also be noted that the Gundam Trading Card Game is also going to be coming out this year (July) so there will be no shortage of Gundam-themed tabletop goodness for you to drink in over the next year or so.
Coming Soon // Gundam Assemble
We'll have to wait and see but it appears like we could get some more information on this in the coming months, especially with conventions starting to ramp up again as we move deeper into the new year.
Do you think this could get you invested in Gundam or are you still watching from the sidelines? I will be intrigued to ask John and Shay more about this concerning the scale, the miniatures and what they think about the ideas presented so far when it comes to Gundam Assemble!
What do you think?

Depending on availability and cost this could be something just for collecting minis alone for me. 8)
Gunpla tends to be very reasonable price-wise so you might be on to something there
I hope they stay that way. All those small tiny dioramas you can make
I just acquired a bunch of the 1/144, so this is a yep for me.
Nice one… and easy spue as well..unlike my robotech tactics which is sitting next to my desk for ebay right now…!
Just hope Bandi got a game designer in then just take a stab at some rules…. just need to know how big the hexes are for 3D terrain
On their page they say “GUNDAM ASSEMBLE is a tabletop game that uses approximately 2 Inch-sized Gunpla to battles.”
Judging by the accommodating picture I’d guess it’s 1.5″ for the long axis.
Will you be adding them to your Botwar game’s Sundancer PS does your head hurt with that star in your noggin ?
Maybe.
About the game or your head hurts ?
yes
Lol
I did not need this. I’m a big Gundam fan, but I only stick with the original Universal Time line (UC). So I might buy a few of the first 1979 series mobile suits like the RX-78-2, RX-75-Guntank, Zakus I & II and so forth. I want touch, nor look at, the other tine lines.
Looks good so what did you do to John I’m surprised he didn’t post this one Ben ?🤔
I feel John is currently locked in a mental freeze because he chose LotR over Krieg and now there is tiny Gundams. Poor John XD
Lol or Warzan’s painting & model ? dungeon/room ?🤔
I’m certainly interested in the minis. Let’s hope the game is appealing as well.
Lots of rules for the minis if the rules aren’t worth it. I just ordered Battle Suit Alpha from Wiley Games (makers of Fistful of Lead); I planned on using 1/144 HG Gundam, but the tiny ones will be worth owning en masse!
Oh this is going to get me spending money, gundam check, hex based check, using D10’s check.
OMG….Take my Money….
I’ll sell a kidney if I have to
The miniatures look nice, but that poor board is terrible though, and looks terribly boring. Hopefully one can use Battletech maps or freeform terrain
I’m sure I saw a board that was just terrain; there has to be a way to play it without that board…
Judging by the amount of positive replies here. I wonder if CGL is aware that Bandai is coming for their lunch money?
So …. what are the chances this arrives before Battletech Mercenaries ? 😉
🤣🤣👍
I have about no idea of the Gundam universe. I’ve basically only seen one clip of an urban battle which was quite captivating. Funnily though, about one to two years ago I somehow watched quite a bunch of review vids and almost bought a few kits for myself but only ended up with a single one from the bay that I didn’t even finish yet. This game could be something. As a kid of the 80s I could totally go with the anime giant robot suit thing. But since I know nothing about them the figures’ design really needs to… Read more »

They show them on a reg bord fighting
so might be both ways to play
