Astra Militarum Refresh!!! Now Just Give Us Regiment Miniatures In 40k GW! #OTTWeekender
October 14, 2022 by lloyd
It's OTT Weekender time! The Astra Militarum of Warhammer 40K has had a massive refresh from Games Workshop. Now we just want them to give us the regiment miniatures that we know and love from the Imperial Guard.
Whilst we're happy to see the Cadians getting a big new set of plastic miniatures, we'd love to see the Mordian Ironguard, Catachans and more come back with a BIG upgrade! Has GW already hinted that those beloved Astra Militarum regiments might be making a return?

36! Ah WH40k it’ll be no time at all before you’re making dad noises as you sit down and stand up.
Love the Napoleonic French Mamelukes from Gringos; the dismounted guy with the blunderbuss is exactly the type of characterful model that cries out for inclusion in a Silver Bayonet unit.
Not wanting to be “that guy” but in the livestream GW confirmed that the new Cadians are on 25mm bases and the Command Squad is on 28mm bases…
Agreed. I also strongly suspect that the Cadian upgrade sprue will live on with the new Guard.
Honestly I’m stoked to see how the many (many) alternate parts kits various folks have made will interact with the new kits. I’m seeing a lot of possibility with the Vic Minis stuff especially
Why the difference in base sizes? Planned obsolescence? I remember a previous change in bases to the point where modellers bought base rings just to make the bases larger! :/
Yay for the weekender.
Friday means weekender goodness… and relax ?
Those new Cadians might be enough to tempt me back into 40k. Love the heavy weapons
I must get a printer. Printer printer
Oh Midbury. What have you done to me.
The General Dumas from Gringo was a black general in Napoléons army and the father of the French author Alexandre Dumas who wrote The 3 musketeers
Don’t forget he ran a big multi national company on Mars as well Gerry.
That’s Lloyd got his order in then.
It’s the Weekender! Let the Hobby Goodness Begin!!!
Love the ‘Gringo 40’s’ Vietnam minis! I plan to procure more of these for a skirmish series of play-thru’s. Platoon level play. Really nice minis.
Pretty sure Pyewacket was the name of a cat that was accused of witchcraft in the 17th century or I’ve been watching too many weird Hammer horror films again
Just got back from watching a local production of Agatha Christie’s death on the Nile with Poirot…..only slight problem – no Poirot, non Poirot, not a Belgian sleuth in sight, not a single waxed mustachio. Think starwars without darth vader….id have been better staying at home and watching the weekender. That’s me learnt my lesson.
Charlie’s angels Boozly.?
I think the challenge with GW creating multiple regiment kits for the AM/Guard is that they are splitting their own base. If they make a Space Marine kit or an Eldar Kit or any other faction: you can potentially sell that to everyone who plays that faction. However, if you sell two different guard kits, most people are going to pick one and buy that. So that’s twice to tooling, twice the setup, twice the packaging and twice the stock tracking for the same player base*. * I suppose the big question is: how many people are out there that… Read more »
don’t forget though that in the livestream they mentioned the Cadian squad can be made two different ways, as both a regular infantry squad and a dedicated Cadian Shock Troop squad, I reckon this is there way of replacing veterans making 3 more regiments – I’m speculating Catachan, Krieg & Tanith – gives them options to make different types of veteran units similar to the 5th/6th edition rules where veterans could take specialisms like demolitions, scouts, etc. Thing is that you don’t need more units realistically thanks to the new regimental doctrines system they’ve designed, there’s no subfactions, the army… Read more »
Bagpipes work’s on the English like the hearing aid on the monster’s in the film the quiet place I think it’s cauld ? Lol.

A Fab show guy’s.
Historical point Max a whatsisname, was post Texas War of Independence, which went on around the time of American Civil War, and came about when the then Mexican President (Jaurez I think) decided to renage on loans to Britain and France, who then siezed Ver Cruz( I think) France decided to form an Empireand Britain went sod this for a game of soldiers. War was famous for French Foriegn Legion. Hollyweird did a few notable movies Vera Cruz with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster currently free on Prime Major Dundee Richard Harris , Charlton Heston Undefeated John Wayne and Rock… Read more »
I was about to do an historical rant but you beat me to it. Napoleon the third invited maximilian to be emperor of Mexico. The French pulled out because of the prussians up to no good in Europe and the Americans were to busy fighting a civil war to complain to much. With out French support maximilian ended up in front of a firing squad but like you say a good 30 years after the alamo
I did stop myself saying Naughty words with Gerry texting me with Nice Aztec figures though!.
Thank you for the heads-up on the Gringo 40s, good stuff.
That Conquest archers look REALLY nice. I love multipose miniatures, and the size and the scale are amazing… but I am afraid I can’t afford most of their products. I grabbed the basic box, because it was a bargain, but the rest of the products, are really out of my reach. 🙁
Good to see gringo 40s I use the Mexican federal minis to recreate the wild bunch. I agree that more companies should give the option to purchase individual minis.
Good weekend coming.
Lots to watch and do. This is first up this morning.
I might have to check out Enderain and add this to the list of rule sets that are stacking on my shelves. Always love an excuse to use my sci-fi terrain.
Fantastic show! I really like the new Guardsmen.
It’s been ages since i to the time to watch the weekender. Awesome indie of the week and good show in general!
