Transporting Miniatures In The Versatile Storage Of The A-Case+ – On Kickstarter Now!
March 16, 2017 by deltagamegirl22
I have been on a quest for a storage solution for my miniatures that doesn't lock you into a particular size or game system, and I may have found the answer on Kickstarter with the A-Case+.
The A-Case by Army-Case.com has been around for a while and is back on Kickstarter in the revamped form of the A-Case+. This is a versatile miniature storage/transport bag that can accommodate a wide range of sizes and quantities of miniatures without breaking the bank.
Building The A-Case
It was one of those projects that just looked so cool and made so much sense to me, that I had to check it out for myself.
My first impression upon receiving the A-Case+ was the relatively small size of the package in the mail. This is by no means a bad thing. It comes in an essentially a flat package as it's sent in pieces for you to assemble.
You literally build it. Ok, I admit that this part really appealed to my jigsaw puzzle addiction, but even for those who don't love having to actually assemble things, it goes together SO nicely.
You assemble each wall for the frame, which comes in very thin sheets of lightweight steel that have scored areas indicating where you need to fold it to create the walls (so there's no additional tools or supplies needed to build it either!).
Each piece then fits together to construct three sides of a box/frame and you slide the whole thing into the very nice quality nylon bag that comes with it. And PRESTO. Just like that, you have a durable case for your miniatures - and it weighs less than 2kg!
So the frame goes together nicely, but where do put your miniatures? You'll notice in the frame you assembled that there are notches at various levels of height. These allow options for you to place the trays however you'd like. If you play a 15mm game, they can be relatively close together in the case.
If you play a 32mm scale game, you can space them farther apart. Say you're painting several miniatures and one is really large, you can create space for that one miniature by altering the space of shelves or leaving a shelf out altogether - it's totally up to you!
The last key to this fantastic system is magnetising your miniatures, which they make as simple as possible by including rare earth magnets with each case - at least enough to get you started. A little dab of glue, apply your magnet, and your minis happily sit wherever you'd like on one of the shelves.
The Power Of Magnets
From there, the sky's the limit - at least relative to any mini you can physically fit in the frame. Space them out as you'd like. Keep them close together to maximise the number of minis on each tray. They will stay wherever you put them courtesy of the magnets.
In this improved version of the A-Case+, they've added notches and pins to essentially "lock" your trays into whatever level you choose. This adds extra insurance and protection for your minis and reduces the likelihood of anything moving if the bag is shaken or overturned.
I won't lie. One of my favourite things to do since magnetising some of my minis is turning the tray upside down and watching them stay put - it never gets old.
The project is well funded at this time which means you have a host of colours to choose from for the bags, and the option of adding personalised naming, additional trays, magnets and more, and there's plenty of time to get in on this super clever product.
What do you think of the versatile A-Case+?

I have an earlier edition of the A-case and I love it. As someone who already magnetised all my minis anyway this was the perfect carry case for me. I particularly like being able to slide a shelf / tray out and put it on the table to start deploying straight away. As the causalities rack up I just put them back on the tray… game over and it’s straight into the case and off…. so easy It looks like this next generation version is a step up from mine too, so I’ll be getting another very soon for my… Read more »
And what do the scanners at the airport have to say about these kinds of cases ?
@limburger I would of thought the open the bag to have a look at your cool minis.

bend over and brace?
That was my first thought too.
“This had better not be Tau…”
I’m backing this, i have started magnetizing my stuff already and using biscuit tins and the like to carry stuff around, so much easier to pack and unpack miniatures (and cheaper) but its about time i got a proper case. This means you don’t have to have customized foam for half your stuff. I started doing it with warhammer fantasy armies where i could put a whole unit away at once rather than packing every single model into a little foam insert, it also meant the unit was ready to go when i had the next game. Only gripe on… Read more »
i have been looking at this kickstarter specifically for my warmachine models, however i have a significant investment in multiple army transporter pluck foams bags at the moment, for my 40k stuff, and i am on the fence about backing it,
I backed this Kickstarter a few days ago.
Quite a number of the newer models out there are starting to become bulky and fragile, especially with the wings on the stormcast models, the new Celestine as well as some of the older models including the helldrake
Have this KS set to remind me, pretty sure I’ll back it.
how well does the case/figure’s do in the airport conveyers?
Seems like a really solid product.
Excellent solution.
I buy those plastic storage bins and glue steel sheets into them. I made about 10 cases for $60. The A Case is very nice of course, but I’m struggling to see the advantage over my home built variety.
I got in on this Kickstarter, because of the versatility. I own over a half a dozen quality bags and hard cases. The only thing with foam is, it is cut for a specific size miniature or you have plucked foam for specific model. As a occasional competitive painter the bag looks perfect to arrange shelves to take a single mini, a vehicle or monster or even a small diorama. the bag looks very travel friendly too. I remember traveling to the last U.S. Games Day 2013 in Memphis Tennessee from California with a larger display case, I had to… Read more »
My mainstay is 6 traditional GW large cases, 2 smalls + a few from KR. I’m looking for something with a soft cover and is a little more discrete, so if they could unlock the black colour (there isn’t minis in this campaign so you unlock colours and magnet sizes…) that would be ideal for me.
Do you think this is better than the new Battle Foam solution? It is also magnetized, and I cannot decide which one may be more convenient… sliding the shelves (A-Case) or stacking them (Battle Foam)…
It’s difficult to say at the moment how they would compare until Batlefoam have some more information on the their magnarack bag , but that might change as they put it up for pre-order, which was advertised for a few days ago. As far as I can see at the moment it will use their 720 case, which seems to take 6 or maybe 8 regularish mini trays, If the site is anything is to go by, the 720 cases seem to cost £160+ with a ship from the US surcharge on most items and you will still need to… Read more »
have backed this its exactly what I need for my 6mm army’s all are magnetised so this solution is perfect, and I can get lots in one bag:-)
