With the guys at 4Ground constantly grinding through their work days; it's difficult to imagine the process to produce their amazing looking buildings for the tabletop. Using his passion project, Big Ben uses Rorke's Drift as a perfect example for what goes into the research and design for the machines before the models ever get close to their miniature counterparts.
Are you willing to spend a week researching concrete?

I have spent many weeks researching small details on a number of different projects. Sometimes that’s as much fun as the rest of the project all together.
Usually research is the cheapest part of a project but pays off bug in the end!
The research is a rabbit hole in can get lost down for an age. Eventually I’ll get to the project itself but until that time it’s highly enjoyable and that research can further branch into areas you hadn’t considered when being the original project.
Do you not just watch the film?
many films are way off mark in Zulu hook was a drunk but his family went nuts because he was teetotal.
Love the research that goes into things. In the Rorkes drift museum built on the site of the hospital there is a glass floor so you can see the original stone tiles from that building underneath.
I need to make a pilgrimage there.
its always good to check information out for yourself to see if things are what people say their are.
Roman concrete used ash from Mt Vesuvius and it has a high aluminum content. The aluminum reacts poorly with modern steel reinforcement.
Reinforcing steel allows for some tension in modern concrete making structures lighter. However, it also is what is the drawback of modern concrete. When it oxidizes it expands 10 fold and just blows the concrete apart.
Ah, the trade offs of nature.
Big Ben, I sure hope you are there in a few weeks when we all join at the table to re-fight Rorke’s Drift!
damm you whoever edited it !!! every time ben was shopwing something you chnged it to picture so I dont now what place he was showing… why?
