that looks soooooooooooooooooooo cool, but a smurf sword!!!! meh!!!
One and only one for every member of the cult.
So very, very cool! And yeah, sounds like yer goin’ for an Eviscerator! Very cool!
It’s like giant Lego!
You guys are single handedly making me want a 3D printer. All I want is my girlfriend to come home one day to an armoury. She might leave me. But at least I’ll have the weapons of the Imperium to keep her from doing that. YES!
I get your excitement for this… but I’ll bet that doing it with XPS would be way faster. And then add the 3D printed details.
Yes and No
This is faster because we have very little time, so the can let the machines do the heavy lifting. So in theory it would be quicker to craft from foam, but only if you have the available time in the first place 🙂
True but you (or @dignity in this case) have invested some considerable amount of time in a)searching thingyverse, b) sampling files and c) prepping the files for printing. Not considering the possibility of failed prints after 25 hours and 80%. I stay by my initial thought: cutting, gluing and sanding XPS would be more efficient. Only real thing that the 3D printer has going for it are the details and the chainsaw teeth. There are many ways to terra….
I take da’ fast route. With moar DAKKA! 😉
I can absolutely assure you for me and dignity, this was not only the ‘faster’ more efficient option, it really was the only option, unless we string up a chainsword that resembles a giant spikey dildo 😉
Only when you have the Hedonites of Slanesh theme night….
You did read the article @brennon wrote? 😉 Don’t sell your talent short. For further reading https://www.beastsofwar.com/featured/the-pressure-to-be-good/ 😉
Just to clarify the article was by nogginthenog.
Something like this perhaps ?

The amount of skill required to actually build it with the level of detail of the one in the video would be quite considerable.
The things one can find out there on the internet though :

@sundancer Having the 3D print makes it more repeatable…
They can now go to town with how many of these things they want to print, they could even print one on each of the 3 printers.
With XPS, they would be up for near the same build time for each one.
Looks nice – I think with the extra sections it will actually be an eviscerator considering how big it already is (it’s marine sized not human sized – no way an Imperial Guard Officer or everyone’s favourite Commissar is wielding that thing one handed). For the purity seal, rather than printing off the seal, why not print off a stamp or signet ring and making the seal from wax? Aren’t Smurf chainswords actually red? Maybe that was just a 90s thing but I could’ve sworn the bodies of their bolters and chainswords were red. ? How much did it cost… Read more »
Im so excited about this! Its mega 😀 The addition of a purity seal will be spectacular thats for sure!
Thanks for sharing guys
I want one!
I will be kissing it 😉
Only kissing it? Whatever you do be careful around the pointy bits. If Justin comes in to work tomorrow covered in plasters take the sword away from him.
Ooh me likey have considered making a copy to give away as a prize @warzan ?
That looks awesome … what brand of filament are you you using and what are your Cura settings?
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that’s very cool, and will look great in the store. . kinda want a 3D printer to play with now. lol
Dam never thought of making something like that. Looking up bolters on Thingiverse now.
Nice job guys.
Its all interesting, but what I want to know is who says “shit”? (re the sign behind the screen when Justin was explaining how he maximized his print!)
awesome
Turned out very nice
You like the Anycubic printers?
I cannot stress just how terrifying a prospect it seems that @warzan & @dignity are left alone to play around with 3d printing shenanigans on that sort of scale…
But it doesn’t work 😉 So we are safe… for now *g*
For a functioning version, Check this out!

That is really damned impressive.
That looks amazing. Looking forward to watching John paint it.
I guess my question would be: after the cost of the printer(s), how much does it cost to print out the sword itself?
A lads with all this terrain you can print, it must go to the store for sale i would buy it for sure after seeing your dwarf tower??????….a need a bloody chain axe….?
That really is awesome! There are so many awesome bits out there you can print now, I can’t see a reason not to get one myself!
Run Warren !!! Run !!!
I recently showed the same reaction when dropping an egg : D
Great looking chainsword! Ultramarines would be ok, but my vote is for Space Wolves. You could put a wolf tail talisman on it. 😀
My old work phone had those noises… never a rest.. lol
That’s looking great there guys! *VROOM VROOM!* For The Empra!
