For the first of our Faction Guides for Wild West Exodus 2nd Edition Week we're looking at the Warrior Nation in this steampunk skirmish game from Warcradle Studios.
Chris and Stu from Warcradle discuss the backstory and gameplay style of this native American inspired faction, as well as introducing us to a few of the Bosses, Faces and Hands that will be at your disposal.

Awesome!! Been following it since first edition and have to say that i love all the changes done in 2nd edition. I love Warrior Nation. Walks Looking is a bad ass.
I don’t know much about WWX. Really looking forward to learning more about this game.

From the earliest days of Wild West Exodus I have always been looking at the Warrior Nation, even more so when the “Dark” Nation was annnounced, Ive yet to see a game played in my local area would be great to get it up and going
I’ve Been looking forward to this wwx week starting. Hopefully some spoilers no ones seen pop up.
I’m pretty excited to see all of the new things. I held off getting into the game earlier because of the beta tests that I saw happening. A little worried that it would change the game too much in a bad way.

Liking the look of the faction overall and walks looking in particular. Can’t wait for the other chats coming up this week.
I’m loving collecting the Warrior Nation – really looking forward to Raven Spirit’s posse and other native peoples joining the fray.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far in the facebook group, I’ve been looking forward to this theme week so I can really see where the game is heading.
I’m liking the look of the Warrior Nation, though both my daughters are currently playing with this faction.
I loved the set ups for Wild West Exodus @ Gencon and loved their promo figure as welll!!! I can’t actually decide on a faction so don’t pick me (just kiddin’!) =p… love ’em all…
Guys you need to work on some better names for the Warrior Nation leaders they sound so generic.
Difficulty is that if we used actual tribal words but then players might struggle with the pronounciation. Walks Looking might be fairly generic, but there was a real woman called Walks Looking too that this character is a nod to.
They used to have several historical names among them, but the new ownership has changed that. Personally Iiked the historical names, but my opinion means little in the course of things.
A very, very good start of WWX week. Thumbs up.

As a long term Outlaw faction player I’m looking to start a new fraction with 2nd edition at the moment it’s between these guys and the enlightened both have so many great sculpts
Going by what they said, would we maybe see some other indigenous people represented with models, for battles taking place in other parts of the world? I know the game is called Wild West Exodus, but that the world is a big place.
They’ve stated they’ll be releasing stuff from other parts of the world. I believe there will be a British faction as well as an Oriental one. Kind of think they should have changed the name of the game as it’s clear they plan on ditching the “old west” focus.
No, Wild West Exodus will absolutely just be about the American Frontier. But you can’t pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist. If we were to do a game with the British, French, Ruissians etc in it we would call it something else. Though its worth mentioning that without the Chinese there wouldn’t have been an old west as we knew it…
I was very close to picking up the first edition last year but with the change if hands I held off. Im really glad to see what warcradle have done with it so far, it looks really interesting. The lets play the other day was really good and already has me sold. I always fanced moving into american civil war stuff and essentially thats this but with sci-fi fantasy elements too, and you cant go wrong there.
As for the warrior nation, Im not sure yet,, I love the idea of the big spirit animals and those actual spirits will be a real challenge to paint so I think this faction is definitely in the running for me.
Just one issue with this game. Every time they mention a faction I want in. Guess I’ll just have to go in big. If only there was some way for us to win a faction starter. 😉

Great video – the more I learn about the Warrior Nation, the more I’m tempted to pick them up. Especially now that Conquistadores have the Warrior Nation trait!

I’ve been waiting for this WWX week and one video in and I’m HOOKED!!
Loving what Warcradle have done here. The background to this faction absolutely sings to me. I was expecting to be making a choice between Outlaws and Lawmen (for a more classic Wild West theme) but I think they’ve managed to work in the fantasy in a way that doesn’t feel forced.
Mind duly expanded!

Like that different leaders have different play-styles. And what I really hope is that the novels will continue….the best feature is the fluff…has been great in 1st…hope it will be as good or better in 2nd!!!

This is my favourite faction from the game, I think it’s the theme of nature that makes them stand out for me.
Still not 100% sure about the new edition, but warrior nation have always been one of my favourite factions.
I know what you mean. I’m currently in “wait and see” mode because I didn’t personally like any of the beta editions of the new edition. The rules aren’t necessarily bad, just not for me. I’ll give the new edition a read-through and if I still feel the same everything is getting sold (and I have a LOT).

I’ve been looking forward to this. I went in on the first Kickstarter but the figures have been gathering dust which is a shame as they are quite wonderful!

Damn, I love the Warrior Nation now! But my ACW loyalty is with the Union, so back in April at Salute I not only bought the Starter with Lawmen and Outlaws but also bought the Union Starter set! Arrrrgh!
Not only that but I’m not a social media guy so didn’t get my new rule book for old in time – still its only money!! 😉
Like the aesthetic of these guys (and ladies). I’m interested to hear more about the Hex to see what connection they have with the Warrior Nation.
I particularly like the depth of history that is invested in each faction and character. I always find my way into a game through the storytelling that is going on through the game. The explanations of individual motivations here in the Warrior Nation makes them so much more compelling for me than previously.

Loving the look of the “Warrior Nation”, liking the thought of having a “Big Ass ELK” running round the field of battle………….it`s sure gonna give someone a pain in the butt. So other than the Elk, you can have an Eagle but will we get to see a Bear a Wolf or even a Buffalo etc etc.
The one mini that won me over for the Warrior Nation is………………Walks Looking, she is one beautiful mini and for me will be one hell of a challenge painting her.
Now let`s go see what the other factions have to offer.

The game looks great and and i have been watching every one of the show about it. And can’t wait to start play but of course a freebie wouldn’t go a miss. LOL!!
Really been looking forward to this week, I really like the look of the warrior nation especially the elk. Looking forward to see more about second edition, I played a demo game at bovington tank museum and really enjoyed it.

This is the faction that interest me the most. I don’t know how often I’ve looked at the webstore in the past, almost buying this faction.
I thought about taking the Warrior Nation but too much flesh to paint. Nice figures, but not my painting forte.
Giant spirit beasts sound cool. Would have liked to see a few more minis.
I do like native americans as a faction. More spiritual than the politically motivated factions.
The models for this faction look great. some very nice sculpts.
Given the interesting back story, is there a campaign or scenario book that takes you through a series of stories?

This is my chosen faction and I’m really looking forward to seeing it expanded to other parts of the worlds. In particular some Aztec jaguar knights would be cool!

Thanks for these reports as they have been superb. Hats off to Warcradle for adding and expanding the WWX universe so well. I have been convinced to dig out some Warrior Nation minis I purchased a while ago and I am assembling them now! The new art work looks great and keep the previews coming.
I like what they are doing with the warrior nation’s background. Ghost Wolf’ s art is the same as I had on my 1st edition card for Sitting Bull…… Is the mini going to be the same too??? Does Sitting Bull still exist ?? or is he now Ghost Wolf??? (I really don’t care I am just curious)
I really like the sound of this faction ….. I just went over to the website and the starter is sold out and is being reprinted … Bugger……. sounds as is others were impressed too.

Sitting Bull may well be out there looking after his people, but his story does not feature in WWX. It’s a great miniature though so we were pleased to be able to use it to represent Ghost Wolf.
@stuart Thanks for the reply. As the week has gone on I notice that you have been making slight changes or total name changes to some of the historical characters. I quite like what you have done as it is really emphasising that the world of WWX and ours are different (albeit similar). Again mate , thanks for your time.

I have always been a fan of the warrior nation. I like the direction that they are taking them. I hope they plan on doing more with the shapeshifting. I always thought that a were-bison would be a cool addition to this faction.

So the new edition will reboot the story, guessing by the fact that Walks Looking is still on the ‘good’ side, but is suggested to go through some developments.
I get the feeling the game has a more distinct good vs. bad feeling anyway. The motives for the Warrior Nation seem a lot more well defined. Or I have missed some earlier backstory.
Not a faction I’d play myself but they do sound interesting.
Finally the Warrior Nation make sense as a faction, definitely going to get these guys on the table
Hope there is a way to focus more on the magical spirits aspect, though the rad natives are good too.
Love this faction, I have loads of the models from 1st edition and loved painting and playing them. Hope they are just as amazing in the new edition

To be honest I originally skipped over this game a wild west settings are not really that interesting to me.
However, after listening to them describe this faction, and those characters I am really keen to get on board with this. It shows that they are putting a lot of work and thought into the lore and characters and for me those aspects are what seals the deal (and why I cannot bring myself to touch age of sigmar despite liking a lot of the new models).

This is my second most wanted faction…Love the idea of shamans conjuring up spirits to join them….and my own totem animal is a wolf – so this is a fraction with witch Im soul connected!
Like the wolf leader and the Ironhawk guy…but would like to see more of the great beasts other than the Elk…
I like the feel of this faction, literally fighting on behalf of the world.
