Steamforged’s Godtear Playtest Kits Available Monday Evening
January 27, 2018 by brennon
Steamforged Games are going to be making their Godtear Playtest Kits available on Monday evening next week (29/01/2018) and they will come in a few different flavours.
Here's how the different sets break down, giving you options to fight for the warriors that you like and keeping the cost down of a single kit...
Name: Early Access Kit
Price: £120/€140/$150 USD
Contents:
- Blackjaw, The Exile
- Rhodri Ironheart, Thane of the Forsaken Hold
- Lorsaynne, The Autumnal Wind
- Raeth-Marid, The Unbroken Tide
- x5 Orcs
- x4 Dwarves
- x3 Elves
- x3 Water Spirits
You will then be able to get your hands on alternative kits.
Name: Rangosh & Followers
Price: £35/€40/$50 USD
Contents:
- Rangosh, Scourge of the Broken Plains
- 5x Human Bandits
...and
Name: Shayle & Golem
Price: £35/€40/$50 USD
Contents:
- Shayle, Keeper of the Oath
- Golem, he's just a great golem
So, if you would prefer to focus on one of the other characters and their warband you can pick up those instead. I really like the idea of playing as the singular Shayle and his mighty Golem. Sounds like an awesome point of difference against the other warbands.
Which kit will you be looking at?

That’s a little misleading as you still need the big box for the tokens and playmats and dice etc.
That’s what i was thinking… the add ons are just to get extra models… doesn’t sound like you’d have enough to play with “just” the add on models, right?
I was under the impression that a full-sized game was 3v3 in terms of champions. Meaning you can play a small game with the £120 box, and the other two let you play a full size game.
Will see if any are available after steamcon attendees grab theres, definately something I am interested in trying and quite a novel concept for tabletop.
Looks interesting enough.
I would dearly love to get on this but I really think it is better fo people who are going to play it seriously to get first dibs….. aa game every three weeks or so really wouldn’t cut it as play testers. I am very keen for this game and will be following its progress closely.
Also, this game is going to go to Kickstarter and then retail… so as this is supposed to be pretty limited in #s, I’m trying to convince myself it’s okay to miss it and wait for KS and Retail =p
@jahatch28 I think thie biggest thing you would miss is taking part in the game development, but I wouldn’t worry about waiting on this one. I think KS and retail will be a great jump on point.
Nice add on packs for the warbands.
everything about the sentence steamforged fantasy skirmish game is tempting.
Sadly they split the models this way. Since there is no distinct gang for each champion a box with several of each type seems one reasonable way. Especially for gaming groups testing rules. But I’d prefer to choose the pieces as I just don’t like some of the sculpts (and wish they were matching the illustrations really closely).
it looks like a fun game but the cost is WAY too high…Shadespire and Aresteia! accomplish similar goals and are much cheaper than this.
why play this instead of either of those?
@trypan01 a few points, this is buying into a beta and costs are higher than release will be due to metal minis etc. So not really the point to do a price comparison.
They are both arena combat games, this is a warband size skirmish game, with narrative campaign and in-depth list building from what has been written. Based on the current games, and reports from early demos it promises to be a really interesting game, where as a shadespire doesn’t really do it much for a number of people.
As @dags says, the cost here is not an accurate cost of how much the game will be. This is a playtest using a small production run of metal miniatures. The retail release will almost certainly be pre-assembled PVC.
Interesting idea for a play test pack with minis already prepared.
It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds, Steamforged seem to be quite the rising star in this post kick starter golden age of competitive market saturation.
Well I consider restraint before going all in … only downside won’t be able to back butchers in PVC a few interested locally so should get some decent testing in.
Don’t be too worried mate . The pledges on the Guild Ball teams have barely moved in days …. we will never see the original teams in PVC . Go all in on Godtear with a clear conscience
Will post pics when it arrives and we get things going
You are a nice bloke , you know that .. the way things are going I may jump in on Godtear trial as well particulaerly since all the people who had first preference don’t seem to have exercised their options … decisiond decisions
Am i the only one that thinks asking people to pay to playtest your ruleset is a little bit of a pisstake?
Do the playtesters get a voucher for the actual game they helped streamline once it’s released, or do they have to pay another £120 6 months down the line once all their feedback has been taken on board?
