A Pirate Elephant Joins The Crew In Vesper-on Games’ Home Raiders
May 24, 2015 by stvitusdancern
Just in case you needed another reason to get in on the Home Raiders Kickstarter from Vesper-on Games, they've managed to give you another one! Meet Mortimer, The Buccaneer!
This pirate elephant is a Kickstarter bonus mini for any backer that has pledged at the Portal Level of above! Who wouldn't want an elephant pirate in their game?!
Have you gotten in on this whimsical Kickstarter yet?

Why aren’t the freeloaders getting any love?
There was a vote for the order of releasing the new factions and the Freeloaders bottomed out. Not sure why ‘cos they have their fans judging by the Kickstarter comments.
The factions seem to have a very love / hate appeal to them. I like Lilliput, Gremlins and the Lords of Dust but the others do nothing for me. I’m not really a fan of Mortimer but it looks like I’ll be getting him with my pledge.
The campaign does seem to have slowed recently. The number of backers has dropped. I’m assuming they’ll pick up again in the final week and we’ll get the Freeloaders added. I think the total amount has gone up so maybe the new bundles and Mortimer are encouraging those backers still in to up their pledge?
I have nothing but love and respect for Vesper-on games. Home Raiders looks absolutely amazing. The only reason I’ve barely managed to not pledge for that game is that I spent so very heavily on their Carnevale Kickstarter (upped my pledge over five different “can not cross” lines in the last day). As much as I’d love to help out on Home Raiders too…I’ll have to content myself with assembling and painting a crap-ton of Carnevale minis. But I wish VOG the best of luck on yet another great project. The concept is killer and the minis look superb. Loving… Read more »
Do Vespers have an app on their phones to generate concepts that throw random elements together?
The idea behind this game has been first class, but it has not been well served by some of the characters are not really in keeping imho
Elsewhere pachyderm pirates could have been of interest. But for me, not 32mm 1:1 scale ones running around the living room.
I’ll stick to the bigger pink ones after a skin full! lol
But in his world he isn’t 32mm? I’d really like to know what the standard metric is for a pandimensional elephant.
He might be, but at 54mm, 70mm or even 120mm, it’s still a tad small for an elephant! lol
Heh…bipedal, pirate elephant with a pet parrot.
I’m willing to suspend my disbelief just a little further to suggest that maybe he isn’t from around these parts in a way that he should be compared with Earth elephants.
=)
It isn’t the concept of a pirate bipedal elephant per se that puts me off, but we then have to believe in a parrot that is incredibly small! Actually, I just added that bit about the parrot on the wing, so to speak! lol It is, as I said, the context of the idea that puts me off. I get the feeling that the designers are just throwing whacky ideas together. Also am just a tad disappointed that when first announced, the game suggested a faerie folk game, which would have been really intriguing for me. Instead it has turned… Read more »
I have to agree with this.
Pirate elephant – Yes please! Just not a great fit for this game.
I’m not keen. I loved the concept of the game. So I pledged on the earlybird kickstarter. I liked the original two factions but I have to say none of stretch goals have grabbed me.
At the moment I think I may need to play the game before I will be wanting to add more models.
And as I said in another thread, that’s why it’s so great that we get multiple factions, likely to be at least five to start with when this is all said and done. Not every faction will speak to each person. We see that in every faction-based game. I’d rather play Rebels than Imperials most days, but I have no inclination to mess with the Yuuzhan Vong at all. Nothing wrong with the concept, just not my cup of tea. If I could afford to buy into this game right now (in both cash and assembly/painting free time), then I’d… Read more »
But isn’t all current abilities in the back of the book?
Yes, but not a point costing system. I.e. some sort of free-form unit creation system like some of the other minis-rules games that I’ve been buying lately.
Examples: Fanticide, Pulp Alley, A Fistful of Kungfu, Of Gods and Mortals, SuperSystem 4E, etc.
I’m trying to find more rules sets that make use of my massive collection of minis.
=)
Just use the stats of the character closest to the effect your looking for +/-1 for perceived effectiveness of the new/changed ability. I find custom group/houseruled characters gains value(i.e. attachment) when they’re workshopped a bit.
A friggin Pirophant…. Amazing !
You don’t see that every day.
I may very well paint this guy up pink. I have been pretty happy so far with everything…just need to get those Free Loaders unlocked and running around 🙂
The Dude abides!
