Wrath of Kings Previews a Bearded Beastie
July 6, 2012 by brennon
We saw a rather cute anime looking lady earlier in the week from Wrath of Kings, but this time we're getting a bit more deadly with a preview of the Longhorn model for the Nasier faction...
Now this model does look awesome. I love the hulking feel to it tied into the large horns and the tussled beard. The only thing that doesn't seem to work on this model is his weapons and that shield. The sword looks like it doesn't belong to him, and that buckler seems a bit small.
I suppose he likes bashing people in the face with his buckler?
Looking forwards to seeing more of this model?

Thats very nicely detailed sculpt. He looks like he means business.
It’s a lovely looking and finely detailed model – despite the horns it has a ‘nobler’ look to it than a lot of demonic figures with the beard and more human face, reminding me a lot of Disney’s (Beauty and the) Beast. There is one thing that holds it back from being perfect and that’s the legs as they’re very small compared to the hulking upper body without the ape-like forward lean or warjack-like broad shoulders to balance that out. I think the weapons do work provided the fluff says that they were taken from human-sized defeated foes as it’s… Read more »
Agree about the leg size. Though thankfully the waist is not narrow like so many models. And I mean models in more ways than one! lol
Otherwise a good looking miniature.
Some bucklers from other cultures are quite small Ben. But I also noticed ow thin the sword hilt is. If he is a large model then it could be he has looted human weapons so they just look small in his mighty mitts?
I’m starting to think that his ‘fluff’ might be more dextrous and light footed than his size suggests. That would account for his weaponry of choice.
BoW Ben
That’s an excellent model. Wish I could paint as good as that.
His legs might be small but I like the effect that it gives the model. It’s kind of cartoonish, sometimes I enjoy models that have kind of an outlandish look to them. This is one of those I think.
I don’t have a problem with the proportions of the model. The buckler could easily be jazzed up with a spiked boss or a few blades to swing with. The sword is a bit odd, like it’s missing its quillion. I guess you could thicken it up with green stuff.
I think this range has a great stylized look which also has that Rackham vibe (I think most minis and art are the ex rackham dudes so no surprise).
The gencon 2012 display looked really good
