White Knight’s New Dwarfs and Goblins

White Knight's Miniature Imperium have released some new miniatures suitable for fantasy gaming. Goblin Infantry and Dwarfen Lancers.
These miniatures might make some interesting alternate models for your armies. Given their rather unique renaissance style appearance they are perfect to make your army stand out. Though I have to say, those look like the most evil ponies in the world!
What are your thoughts on these? Do you like the look of them? Or are these not to your taste?
Swing ‘n a miss!
They’re a lot more cartooney than we’ve come to expect from modern miniatures, but even after you forgive that those ponies look pretty weird.
It’s whimsy fantasy. Remember back when GW was much more whimsical – all the goofy models they had? The Space Ork Goffik Rockers. The Snotlings? (Which they still have, but seem to have been marginalized in the latest historical revisions.) These are very old school. I can see how, given the excellent production that we are seeing now, these would come across as just poor talent, but when you take into account the detailed and revealing expressions on the mini’s faces, you can tell that the sculptor knows his(her) craft. It seems that the entire range of the White Knight… Read more »
The famous dwarven pike regiment of Crotch Pokers. 🙂
I must say that they have a lot of character. The goblins for a change look some what civil and yes the ponies look even meaner than the riders. Over all the comic feel of it, is a good thing. Sometimes we need a bit of fun.
Those goblins are ace. Reminds me of when Kev Adams was the goblin master. Very Labarinth. They should do a Bowie model
Wondering how the two back goblins are able to fit those helmets on with such big noses? Fun models with character! I like them.
Not sure at what point this happened but fantasy got realistic and that’s fine, just glad someone’s making high fantasy again.
For GW it happened in the years after the management buyout, around the time they went public. It’s interesting, they dumbed down the rules, but made the fluff and models more ‘realistic’ in an effort to market to younger audiences. Younger audiences just didn’t get the tongue in cheek humor, so they moved away from it. It continued when Chambers came in for 40k, and with him the new ork line became much more realistic – all the bright colors went away. (This is also about the time Mike McVey left.) Priestly’s influence in Fantasy I think kept some of… Read more »
Not bad models, I like the Goblins a lot more than I do the dwarf(ve)s. I think I have been spoilt by the great dwarfs of GW and Mantic, and of course AoW.
Goblins have lot of character to them and the right kind of cheek to the sculpts.
