In this week's show, the guys have been joined by Mat from Steam Forged Design and it's going to be a blast as they get to grips with Guild Ball and all the little things that make it a very special Kickstarter. They also have a quick word about what they have been getting up to hobby wise this week, including Justin once again building like a maniac to get our Wild West Exodus minis built and ready for upcoming content, Warren building more gaming tables for us to play on and Lloyd finally getting minis together for his dream army.
So, with this being another great week in gaming for us, what have you been up to? And will you be joining one of the Guild Ball guilds?

Castlerock and Articlave – now that is a fighty combination 🙂
Sure is lol
Binevenagh Rangers anyone?? Nickname could be The Bishops
I think that would be a could league going…
I’ve so (c) that team.
Stupid question time… Why was a half hour demo game shoved into the middle of Weekender?
Would it not make more sense to have it on it’s own so it’s easier to find and watch in the future.
This isn’t the first time BoW have done this and it’s a right pain.
I don’t mean the above in a nasty way but I get my hopes up when I see a super long weekender and settle down to watch it – only to wind up skipping most of it. 🙁
Why was a half hour demo game shoved into the middle of Weekender? – Because it’s a Guild Ball Special and we wanted to show how it was played. Would it not make more sense to have it on it’s own so it’s easier to find and watch in the future. – If and when the game goes to retail we may do a dedicated video for that. This isn’t the first time BoW have done this and it’s a right pain. – It might be a pain, but if the weekender was the exact same format week in week… Read more »
Oh don’t take it the wrong way. My above post was meant in more of a puzzled/bewindered type of tone. ( And I guess part of that is because it’s still so bloomin early in the mornng. lol ) I can see your points and I kind of understand them. And have no doubts that I ‘will’ watch the demo game at some point. I’m just not overly keen on settling down to watch one thing only for it to turn into something else half way through. I’d rather they be seperate with a link between them. And in a… Read more »
Taking out the discussion on GB that followed the demo game there was less than 20 minutes of Weekender content. I don’t feel short-changed and I don’t want to make big deal out of a minor thing, but like Tasker, I watch, and love watching, The Weekender because it’s a bunch of gamers shooting the poo about gaming and stuff.
I agree that its the relaxed chatting about the hobby that really make me look forward to the weekender every week. Now I was blown away by the guildball game but the “game of the week” kind of content is not why im showing up every week and loving you guys.
Keep up the good work and we keep on watching.
Me too, Lloyd! I have a Perry samurai army I’m going to mix oriental fantasy minis in, probably from Kensei, and run it as a fantasy samurai army.
Yeah for sure the Kensei & Perry models look class, also I’m thinking I could work in some of the guys from the Bushido Savage Wave as Oni for the army.
Cherry Pepsi Max – Check
Skittle Crazy Sours – Check
Let the Weekender commence.
I liked the fact there’s a game demo in it – really interested in Guild Ball. Just a shame it’s official release is so far away! I’ll have to download the files and give it some welly.
These game designers are so inconsiderate – how can they expect me to have the time and money to get into all these amazing games???
Currently drowning in Infinity, Malifaux and Dreadball, now this! AND Mercs Recon is tempting me :'(
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any issue with GB coverage on BoW. I don’t think Tasker does either. It’s just mildly disappointing when it comes at the expense of what we love about The Weekender. I want to stress the “mildly” in that sentence.
Indeed. I have no problems with BoW promoting Guild Ball. I just would have prefered for it to have been it’s own seperate entity, leaving the weekender to be the weekender. As it stands, this really wasn’t an episode of the weekender but more an advert for Guild Ball taking up the weekenders time slot. And i’m guessing that XLBS is going to be more of the same. ( Not normally a bad thing. ) So i’ll probably pass on it. Doesn’t mean i’m up in arms about it. Far from it. But as Redben said – It’s just mildly… Read more »
XLBS is basically a 45 min chat with Me, Lloyd and Romain about painting issues etc.
As regards what goes into what, it’s really all down to timing, we had an opportunity to have a guest on the show, and look at what has turned out to be a very well developed game.
So we roll with it.
“XLBS is basically a 45 min chat with Me, Lloyd and Romain about painting issues etc.”
Well in that case i’ll give it a watch then… ( Ahh. Who am I kidding. I probably would have anyway. 😀 )
Hehe. You roll how you roll.
Totally agree with you, mate! It’s getting hard to maintain sanity and money with all these amazing games coming out.
Castlerock Fishermen and Articlave Butchers? Guess I’ll have to put together a team of the Bushmills Brewers Guild then Warren.
Wait did I hear him suggest some BoW designed Guild Ball minis. We could make the Games Journalist Guild! We distract the other team with shiny syndrome!
Or bow ties… gotta love bow ties.
ahh Bushmills Id second that.
and maybe a fez? Fezzes are cool!
one of my mates has a samurai army he uses for kings of war = amazing
Yeah it would be cool for WHF and KOW so its a win win 🙂
Will give this Guild Ball a go I think.
As for Wild West Exodus, well the minis for that game are just awesome.
Guildball looks interesting but I think Dreadball/Dreadball Extreme abd the future Dreadball Apocalypse (you heard it here first folks) will be enough ‘sports’ games for me.
Awesome I have been hoping they would put up those card cut out figures somewhere so I could demo the game at home with some friends! Thanks a lot for the resources and I for one appreciate the demo game its always good to have a reference to fall back on! Keep up the great work guys and looking forward to Guild Ball!
Right – so about these guilds…
– Butchers
– Fishermen
– Masons
– Morticians
– Brewers
– Union (possibly if enough unlocked)
– Alchemists (announced but not seen or unlocked)
– an unknown guild to be developed with a backer
I guess that makes 8 although not all available or visible yet. Which 4 to choose up front??
With the Union I think they are more like merc’s, each one can play for a number of teams, I imagine there probably is/will be an actual Union team but individual Union members can play for other teams anyway 🙂 at least that’s what I took away from it.
Argh, I don’t need another kickstarter project to back! I have been eyeing Guild Ball for a while but so far had been able to resist it. After this I think I’ll have to give in, luckily I know at least two other people to push over the edge with me on this.
As Harry Hill would say FIGHT!
Many moons ago when I left school played during tea breaks football like that not the panzy way the (professionals’) do.
Still have the chips in my shins (hormones and Steele’s) not the best combination.
Guild Ball looks fantastic! I will give it a try and if it works as amazing as it looks on the show I probably will have to get it!
Looks super great. Especially on that sweet pitch.
The game looks interesting. I might have to look into it more.
@Tasker: I’m not sure why you didn’t like the game preview. The title said it all. You show different subjects during your most watched program to get others to talk about it and spread the word. Obviously Warren and the guys thought it was good subject to present to everyone. Great job guys!
Love the lockout t-shirt!

you win life! so happy someone recognised it 🙂
Great show as always guys! Yes it was a bit one-game centric but it was called the GB special after all I suppose and we still got a bit of general banter at the start. Must agree with some other sentiments expressed however and say that I see the Weekender and XLBS as a bit of a weekend magazine show akin to the shows on the beeb and channel 4 – heck that’s what the rest of my household are watching when I’m ensconced nearby with the ipad watching them each week! It is precisely the general discussion, banter and… Read more »
“There is no such thing as the right choice and the wrong choice, there are just choices and then there’s repercussions to those choices…”
I so want that on a T-shirt… 😉
I’d be tempted, shame its only the kickstarter ones that can be resin though.
Damn you did manage to make me part with more of my hard earned …
