as far as armies being overpowered, it would not be an issue if GW’s design team would stop thinking in terms of “how can we make this army or that army more powerful”. they should focus on making sure the armies are all equally powerful. and that is with ALL their systems, not just fantasy. these games should depend on strategy and die rolls, not inherant strengths of the armies.
I totally agree,i think they go too far with the hero’s in some of the army ( too much cheese ) they need to nerf some of them they are too over powered. You guys need to use this studio more often its awesome.
if you look at the miniature showcase of the demons, you can find some new models that they are bringing out next month. like the changeling and the oracle of Tzeentch,…
I use these for the wheeling issue. Not perfect but we all use the templates at our club.

The magic failing on a one makes sense because its inline with the rest of of rolling with 1 always being a fail
I think Warren’s totally right about the fluff on fantasy needing to be more clearly defined. I play 40k and its just so much more accessible: hopefully this book has changed this, the huge fluff section sounds promising. I might finally get into fantasy as a fluff-orientated player because of it. Good vid.
As someone just coming into the hobby (initially with only painting in mind) I find the hobby/fluff the first bits I read, I find them the most interesting bits.
It must be growing up reading Fantasy books!!
Sorry guys, but quite frankly an hour-long gush over how great everything is did not make for an entertaining video. 8th edition has many flaws and I’m hoping that later, more in-depth videos of yours are going to identify those.
And comments about ‘taking back Warhammer’ makes those such as myself who havn’t exactly been enthralled (to put it politely) by the new game feel even more ostracised, and very much goes against any kind of ‘community’ ideal.
William passed his Look Out Sir roll lol!
warren im 13 and im gonna get the 8th edition starter box
Got my book today, awesome stuff
I really enjoyed this video and I have to agree that I feel it’s making WFB a better game.
@maluscalibur- I don’t see the issue in them expressing how they feel. It builds the community among those who are on board with this edition. That said, I’m sorry you aren’t happy with it- it’s a real gyp when you look forward to a game and it fails to meet your expectations. Good luck with your gaming, whichever system you run 🙂

The Good

Rules, Hobby and Fluff are stuck togather, why can’t i just buy the fluff?
It’s not a PDF.
Very nice video! Thanks for the time and effort, guys.
i just played my first 8th edition game. so far so good! my favorite revisions: 2 ranks for shooting and fighting, the horde rule (which i overlooked in the game), and the special terrain rules.
I played my first game with the new rules this evening and it was great.
I only discovered WH in the last edition, so I’m not that experienced. Tonight’s game went flowed really well and was great fun!
Thanks guys, really appreciate the fact that you’re “reclaiming” WHFB…. I’m a die-hard WHFB player and the past few years have been pretty rough going. I’m very excited about the future of WHFB and very appreciative of how Beasts of War presents things. I agree 100% about the slim rulebook…Luckily one of my local gaming stores tends to open GW box sets and sell things individually….I’ve actually seen a copy of the slim rulebook at a GW store so I know that they are out there and being used. Should have stolen the darn thing really. Honestly though, I doubt… Read more »
@ratherlargedagger- I thought it was 1″ of other units- 6″ would make no sense at all!
Man that was long XD
But it looks really good. If it wasn’t for the startup costs I’d probably switch over from 40k to play it!
Great video guys – nice to see different opinions getting aired. The book looks gorgeous, but I’m way too tight to pay £40+ for a book! Any further news on the box set? Plenty of rumours flying around the ‘net!
I never really liked fantasy as it just seemed to lose its fun in the rules, however these changes seem great, really great… looks like I’m going to have to start saving up for that Skaven army I’ve been thinking of building for a while now.
All this talk of fantasy has really got me thinking about starting a fantasy army. I like the look style of th lizardmen, how are they?
Talked to quite a few WH40K players, and gamers in general, that’s been quite interested in starting WHFB now with all the good buzz they’ve been hearing about 8th edition. Best paragraph in the entire 8th edition BRB (big red book), though I guess there’s a BBB (bigger black book) now as well; “The Spirit of the Game” “You’ll realise soon that Warhammer is different to any other game you have played. It is important to remember that the rules are just a framework to create an enjoyable game. Winning at any cost is less important than making sure both… Read more »
I realy appreciated the video as a veteran WHFB player, the way you picked up the main rule changes was spot on. You also covered the spirit of the rules and the rule book. As I don’t want to buy the new starter set. I will be buying the book. You are right about the need for a slimmer volume. But I think its pretty unlikely to be available sepertately.
Awesome video. Almost definately going to buy the book now at least, might even create an army 😉
@ 1:12:00, you guys start talking about the big evil tree…I may be wrong but I don’t think that is going to be a plastic kit because I remember seeing it in an old WD and they actually showed the step-by-step creation process too. It was US issue 285 featuring beastmen.
