More Wanted Poster Teasers from Games Workshop
September 12, 2011 by brennon
Anyone who got their hands on White Dwarf this month will have seen this image within its pages...
And now they have released another image of a new captain...
A lot of talk on the internet has been about a new one-box naval game from Games Workshop, something akin to the Space Hulk release we saw from them a few years ago.
We shall know more on September 17th it seems, so hold back the scurvy until then!
Are you intrigued about this news, what rumours have you heard?

Blanche somehow got hold of some pencils again eh?
…know what you mean. As much as the people in Nottingham seem to love his art style, I just can’t get my head round it or why its at all used. It doesn’t fit with the way the game looks these days. Same, unfortunately with Geoff Taylor’s art.
And I just love his style. It’s a perfect representations of Warhammer world.
yep completely agree…not a fan of his
While I like Blanche’s artwork, Brennon is right that the miniatures haven’t reflected his art in a long time.
As for a naval game set in the Warhammer World… Not really my thing. If it’s a one-shot board game then maybe I’ll look into it, but probably not. Anyway, we’ll see in a week what it is really.
Some of his work is ok, but the majority of it is from something many would consider ‘back catalogue’. Sure, his artwork has inspired some of the new Vampire Count stuff but in terms of the look and feel of the modern game, the miniatures just don’t match. I prefer the work of Adrian Smith myself, a great artist with a smart eye for detail and with a theme running throughout his work.
Yes, Blanche’s stuff is a bit of mixed bag. Some of them are truly stunning, setting the mood for the game just right. Mordheim comes to mind. Others are just scribblings. Either his has some occasional serious creative periods or maybe the context where GW uses his works is just off. Anyway, most of his work is ok.
I agree with you that Adrian Smith has had the most influence to the look and the feel of the Warhammer World lately. Just look at his chaos artwork, stunning stuff 🙂
Honestly I don’t see the point in buying GW one off games they don’t support them. If its a naval battle game as well then there are other options on the market. All of which are fully supported by their respective producers and aren’t a one off cash cow to try and boost short term sales and massage the end of year figures… I’m sorry did that sound a little bit cynical? Well 27 years of putting up with GWs antics does that too you.
agree with you @sirangry
Also I love Blanche´s artwork, He and others from old times were the responsibles for me get into the game. The minis and art and the game is very different from the feeling that these beautiful artwork represents
Not in the slightest bit intrigued. Reaching for super glue as my eye drops for this one.
Er… manpug. You might not want to do that. There will be cool stuff along from someone else in 5 minutes, you just know it 🙂
Only one eye glued shut. Thanks to your reminder I shall see Romain’s next 3up before I glue the next shut. 😛
There you go. Safety first 🙂
It wouldn’t be GW without old scurvy dogs like Long John Blanche at the helm!
A revision/one shot of Man’o’War looks like it’s on the deck if I’m not mistaken, unless GW release some pirate skirmish game akin to Black Scorpion Miniatures ‘Cutlass!’
Either way, I’m intrigued…
i couldn’t care less. lets all buy a game that we cannot play in the store. whoot.
If it’s a good game – has good play, then I might be interested.
To be honest I don’t have time or cash for another “growing” game system, so something simple, you pick off the shelf and play, might be just right for me.
If its a one-off game then thats fine with me, but if its gonna be another games system that GW start and then cancel all support for (and then sue people who try and support it themselves) then forget about it!
Personally, I rather like John’s art. It’s much more painterly than illustrative and I think that they misuse it a lot. The two chaps shown here look rather splendid fellows.
I would expect this to be a one-shot game, but you never know. It’s either that or they might tie it into Warhammer like Mighty Empires (Warhammer Naval, perhaps). It’s clearly not going to be a core game and there aren’t that many other ways they can slot it into their business model.
Bring back DARK FUTURE instead!
I second that, its forebear Battlecars was the first ever ‘wargame’ I played… yeah I know it was a board game really but still, it got me into the hobby as my dads Battlecars looked way cooler than my Matchbox rubbish!!!
never been a fan of Blanche’s artwork….don’t say they are reissuing Man-O-War o..O
Why not just re release Man O’ War? Blummin loved that game!
It’s not a re-release of Man O’ War according to the rumours. We have had some topics on the forums about this. It is (from the rumours) called Dread Fleet and will be a scenario based one box game something like Space Hulk.
Everything you need will come in the box, with a allied Order fleet against the undead Sartosan one. This means no pure race fleets, just a combined fleet from different races.
@brennon sound interesting…. I wonder if it will be a one off box set or will it have the potental to expand??? I guess all will be revealed 🙂
I hope this isnt a naval game at all but a return of dogs of war.
