Thundercloud Finish Off Their Icy Bear Rider
August 15, 2013 by brennon
Thundercloud Miniatures have made waves with the models for their upcoming range and the Bear Rider has been finished off with a nice paint job. What do you think?
I paint neatly but terribly when it comes to detail so whenever I see someone who has put a lot of effort in I commend them immediately. I quite like how this one has turned out and I await the arrival of more from them in the near future.
What do you think of the painting that's gone into this model?
Let me know in the comments below!
That’s… not a bear.
It has the wrong anatomy. So does the rider. And it looks like it was covered in whipped cream instead of fur.
That is just bad sculpt and paint job dosen’t help.
I really don’t think it’s that bad to be honest. Sculpt is a little off with the arms but I quite like it.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen worse, but it’s a bit shabby.
Disappointed tbh
It is tricky for sculptors trying to render fur at this scale. For some reason people expect a lot of texture to paint.
But look at a polar bear and you don’t see clumps of heavy texture. Artus maritimus as the name suggests is adept at swimming. That would not be helped by a fur like this.
One of these days someone is going to be brave and sculpt animals with much smoother fur.
It already has happened. Look at the way horses are sculpted, as well as the Argus hounds from PP : they’re covered in hair, supposedly, bt most of the sculpt is smooth.
Not a fan. I bought some of the Scibor dwarf bear riders and they are outstanding. Look there instead.
Painting is not that bad imo (although it could be better) and the price is almost half of scibors’. But I would prefer the Scibor model too, have bought all 3 individually. After they made a 3-pack it made me angry as I had spend like 20 quid more than I should’ve, but that’s their call.
Never bought from them again.
