Thormarillion Take You Down for a Cask of Amontillado
May 16, 2012 by brennon
Some more Dungeon terrain today from the maestros at Thormarillion. If you're looking for a bit of underground decoration or indeed something to use as an objective in a piratical skirmish game then this might be the vintage year for you with this Wine Barrel...
A rather simple piece but used well it could play a great part in an adventure. Maybe there's a body stuffed inside and your hapless heroes have to find a way of wheeling it out of the castle before anyone notices? It could be the prize wine of a Naval Admiral and your piratical crew just want it for bragging rights? The use is up to you.
Extra points if someone guesses where the title of the article is from!
Will you be partaking of this excellent wine?
@brennon – I bet you can’t tell amontillado from sherry… 😉
Great piece of terrain here – it could be full of gunpowder so you have to avoid shooting or magic within a certain distance, or full of rum which you have to protect (or risk telling your captain why the rum is gone… ;)) or you could make a dwarven unit filler with it to show them marching on their stomachs – for BEER! It blocks clear sight too, so it’s quite versatile.
It’s a cursed magic item known in legend as ‘The Barrel of Laughs’.
Anyone drinking from the barrel has to make a constitution check or be placed prone for 2d6 rounds in the throes of a giggling fit.
If a double 6 is rolled, you split your sides laughing, quite literally.
I see the barrel rolling with a furious dwarf on it as it careers through the dungeon corridors flattening goblins.
Not sure if dwarves would have sufficient dexterity to pull off the stunt.
Could be overcome by the “Who knicked my XXXXXX’ beer!!!” special rule.whereby the dwarf gets so raving bonkers he can pull it off oo-er missus.
I like the idea and it can be painted rather easy. I’m all for cool new stuff.
