Tabletop Art New Woodland and Stonefloor Bases
November 28, 2011 by dracs
Tabletop Art have some new bases with which to send you miniatures to deep woodland or the ruins of a stone fortress.
These are some particularly well detailed bases which are sure to add a nice degree of character to your miniatures. However, some of them seem to me to be a bit cluttered and may prove somewhat difficult to mount miniatures on.
What are your thoughts on these guys? Do you think you might use them with some of your figures?
I think you hit the nail on the head Sam. They do look catching for a special unit you might have, if you can fit them on.
You have to have incredibly posable models (or be a dab hand with Dremel/hobby knife and putty) to use these well, but at least for jump troops you can just shove brass rod (or better yet clear acrylic rod) up their backsides…
Works fine for Sanguinary Guard. 😉
At what point does a base stop becoming a base, and starts to become its own model? I think (and this is a subjective perspective) that a base should enhance the mini, but if it becomes an object separate from the mini, its pulling focus rather than enhancing. Once this happens, you start drifting into diorama or competitive mini painting where the scenery is as important as the model.
