Stupidity Test And The Failed Charge Rule | Daily Tips
December 22, 2010 by dignity
Today Darrell has a look at being stupid, and what happens when model with the stupid rule walks up to an enemy modle and is in base contact with it.
I wonder if Darrel has the same rule…

Stupidity isn’t rolling 1D6 and a one gets you a failed roll. Stupidity is a Ld test done on 2D6. If you fail the test, you stumble forwards the 1D6
Yeah tricky question. I’d say either they stop 1 inch away or they fight a combat but do not fight.
jesus darrell… did you just come off of a bender!?
While Darrel may appear to be hung over and he hasn’t read the rules for stupidity I believe he has ‘stumbled’ onto the correct answer by making it up –
They test for stupidity before movement (inc charges) and id say f they make contact then they have charged the unit but that the enemy cannot make a charge reaction (like when being charged by random movement models) but that the stupid models cannot attack as they are allowed no further action that turn.
I would say wrong on all accounts. It IS random movement as it is determined randomly. Thusly, look at the random movement rules and use those. Alternatively, treat it as a failed charge, in which case, normal movement rules apply, which specify that unless you successfully charge, you must remain at least 1″ away from an opponent at all times.
Lastly, if you did go with them having charged, then there is nothing saying that they can’t attack in close combat because it specifies that they cannot charge/make a shooting attack/generate power dice/cast spells. (Although, I guess it does specifiy no other actions, even if not mentioning combat…)
Best bet is to houserule it with your opponent before the game if you have stupid units. Alternatively roll off.
Ultimately, 1″ apart is the most logical reading of the rules because it’s a random movement that counts as a failed charge and only successful charges can get you into combat.
If you want to ignore that, then you’re pretty much already houseruling it and so you may as well ignore the “no other actions” part and allow them to attack in combat. Precedent being that they don’t take Stupidity tests in combat because they’re too busy fighting to be thick 😀
If you can’t be bothered to read it all, correct ruling would be that a failed charge isn’t a successful charge (the only way of getting into combat – whether by a spell or random movement or conventional means, etc) and only a successful charge can egt you into base to base contact – all other movement means that you stop 1″ apart.
WOW darrel you look like ass
Holy arsey-crumbcakes Darrell! I just watched this on YouTube and had to come over here to make my first post!
Time to do a correction video buddy. Otherwise you’ll just keep getting comments like those up there ↑
😉

Have no idea what the new 8th edition rules say about stupidity but i remember in one of the older editions it said the affected unit simply sits down on the ground and picks grass… they can take no other action [including movements] but they can defend themselves. This rule works well so why did they go and change it?
