Soda Pop New Dungeon Explorer Dragon
July 27, 2011 by dracs
Soda Pop have put up new pictures on of their dragon for Super Dungeon Explore.
This is Starfire, Master of the Dragonback Peaks. He'll be included as the first level boss for your game Super Dungeon Explorer.
What do you guys think of this? How do you think he'll play in your games?

Looks like a great model, especially the pose and base. Although is this WIP? It looks lacking in detail on the skin.
I think that could be intentional. They are going for a cute, manga look to their monsters and heroes and if you imagine that on, say, a Pokemon card, it totally fits. I just wish they would hurry up and release the Super Dungeon Explorer game!
looks nice and easy to mod if you have the skills for making scales.
Awsome looking dragon mini. Looks mean but at the same time ties in with the SDE feel.
I would be inclined to paint the scales freehand on this model as my green stuff skills would not do it justice at all.
If this nasty looking dragon is the first level boss i would hate (or should that be love) to see the other levels.
I like it, it has that cartoon look that the rest have.
Id prefer it with scales but i guess its that manga/pokemon look so very fitting. The game cant come quick enough
if the game harks back to odnd the first boss being a dragon does not bode well for the explorers…flame up, mmmmm crispy kebab people…refer to dnd clip:

Pretty awesome dragon, love the pose 🙂
I don’t know… they should have gone all “cute” and made a chibi dragon, this one just seems like a rubber dragon. Not bad, though.

I’m inclined to agree. This one doesn’t have the super deformed look the rest do, which makes it look like just a poorly detailed “normal” dragon model to me.
Not their best work.
Likewise
It isn’t a bad sculpt per se but the style require some texture imho
Did wonder if it was still WIP.
Like you say Quirky it has more “correct” dragon proportions rather than the caricature proportions of the other chibi models
I don’t think this fits with the others.
Maybe a WIP indeed.
Perhaps the process starts by going into the field and observing a dragon in the wild so they can make this accurate sculpt; then they put it into the super-deformerizer afterwards. This is a rare glimpse of the half-way stage.
That’s alright then 🙂
well, you gotta think it is most likely a boss model, so it needs to be more menacing without it being insanely detailed horror-ness, so to give it an angry look, making it bigger with more realistic look makes it seem like a harder creature to kill without taking away from the over-all cute effect of the game
Not convinced oceangrave. Boss model, sure, but think how much more scary it would have been if it was superdeformed too. It’s head would be three times the size of your whole model!
But it would still be cute 🙂
lol, i absolutely love what they’ve done here, and cant wait to get it in the Super Dungeon Explorer game pack in a few months, 60 models including this puppy, WOOT
