Skin Wolves and Mysterious Frogs from Warhammer Forge
March 2, 2012 by brennon
The next treasure trove of models has been unearthed with the new Forge World Newsletter, this time it's Warhammer Forge time and its full of howling and croaking!
First up are these mighty Skin Wolves which will be stalking around the forests of the Drakwald under the moon of Morrslieb and Mannslieb. I love these models and they really seem to have taken a good twist on the werewolf style. Very much a centrepiece for a Chaos of Vampire Counts army?
The rules for them are here.
But if your looking for something a little smaller then how about these Arcane Frogs summoned into being by the Storms of Magic? So this is what happens when a wizard miscasts?
Are you liking these creatures?

Add chainrifles, belt pouches… There’s going to be a bad moon rising for enemies of Ariadna..
I really hate the fact that the skin walkers feet don’t fit on the base. The amount of overhang looks terrible.
Well a bigger base will help there and allow the addition of some scenics as well. I have been waiting for some really good Werewolf types to appear to complete my alternate VC army with a unit of Beowulf guard. (Look up Dance in the Vampire Bund if you are curius for my ideas on this). These guys look exactly the part.. Sadly it will have to wait till after release as I am tapped out for this month. Far too many good minis!
Wouldn’t be so bad if the feet looked as if they were not meant to be glued to the base.
Or if forgeworld simply to use a bigger base
They will cost enough without having to mess about ordering bigger bases
Thing is, they don’t cost much more than the Fimir or GW’s own injection-moulded plastic monstrous infantry (Vargheists, Minotaurs, etc.) which is strange. Why does a FW kit yet again cost barely more than a mainstream one? Options on the sprue can’t explain that totally…
It’s GW costing. They price things with a lotto ball dispenser and add on 50%
GW price products according to firstly, how much they think they can get away with; secondly, how much the model is valued in game-terms; thirdly, how likely you are to buy multiples of the item (models which are likely to only be bought once per player are priced higher); and forth, they all follow a pre-agreed pricing (so all monsterous infantry in one material are priced at a fixed cost which incorporates the first three). And probably a few others.
I’m assuming FW price their items along different lines.
I really like them. Werewolves are something that have been mentioned in the Warhammer Fantasy fluff and novels for a long time, but I don’t think they ever had any models for them, much less actual rules. The closest has been the “Thing in the woods” from Mordheim, I think.
I think these would complement Creoda from the Bane Beasts range quite nicely.

Once, many moons ago, GW did have a small range of werewolves, including one (suprisingly anatomically correct) fella that became the basis for my first Mark of the Wulfen Wolf Guard….
Those werewolves are rather nice.
Nice? NICE?
They’re WEREWOLVES! They want to rip out your throat!!!
How can they be nice?
oh…. see what you mean :*)
Aye they are not too bad at all lol
These are what I imagine werewolves to truly look like, not just a wolf who can turn back into a man.
heh underworld werewolves 🙂 , too bad that there are no figures for the reference standard
Finally some werewolves that will look super cool for blood bowl!
Wouldn’t have werewolves in my team.
There would be too many howlers! 😛
