Shieldwolf’s Mountain Orcs Assemble For Bloody Battle
February 13, 2014 by brennon
Shieldwolf Miniatures have been showing off heroes and character models for the past few weeks but the actual infantry for their Mountain Orcs have arrived on their webstore. These mighty Orc Infantry are raring for a fight.
It's not the best piece of photography, which is strange considering most of their existing imagery for the miniatures, just a tad fuzzy. Despite that though it looks like they have put together some rather awesome savage looking orcs that would be great for either games like Warhammer Fantasy or Kings of War.
I might not be a fan of the more toothy and animal looking Orc they have shown off here but it is a different take on the tried and tested greenskin so I can appreciate that.
Does your Orc army need these?
I guess you can never have enough cartoony proxy orcs.
I kinda like that look. It’s a more feral beastie take on the Gee Dub orc which would suit them a bit more. I really like the look of the horn and hand weapons too. They’ve got a really basic look about them and haven’t just been thrown in as generic shapes.
Well I like them, despite the unclear photo. It’s good to see another alternative on the market, might be worth grabbing, though I’d like to see some sprue shots to see how they’re composed.
I remember the good old days when the word “orc” was not synonymous with “greenskin” and 10 different manufacturers made 10 very different looking orcs so you had choice. Real choice. Not just a choice of which variation on a GW proxy you hate least.
Wholeheartedly agree. Hard to find a good LOTR style orc anywhere. The Mantic ones are better, and I bought a bunch, but only because no one else makes affordable serious orc units.
If your looking for good LOTR-style Orcs then Wargames Factory does a 24 model box of them. 🙂
Yeah, but they’re not very good. I wouldn’t buy them.
Thanks for the tip. I actually got some of those, just to have a peak. I found a few things wrong with them. First, that amorphous torso they touted as revolutionary. It just looks wrong, and why would reversing it be a selling feature? Second, the helmets: your choice of Chinese party hats or Nazi helmets. What were they thinking? And you don’t get enough heads to forego those entirely. Third, the size. Not sure if they’re trying to save on plastic, but they’re built to true 28mm, instead of historic, and don’t look very imposing in a heroic universe.… Read more »
Para 3. Make that ‘heroic’, not ‘historic’.
They’re lovely. Shame I already have a butt load of savage orcs
I wont need these, but definitely a range worth keepin an eye on.
A very warm welcome from the Shieldwolf Team here in Athens. This is our first post here at BoW, which we would like with the occasion to thank for supporting us and leting people know of our work.
We apologise for the quality of the pictures shown, we have already fixed that problem though and also added some additional pictures and a preview of the main sprue.
You comments motivate us in producing always better miniatures.
Thank you.
I can definitely see myself getting so of them.
How about a sprue with alternative serious heads?
You gotta be kiddin’! The only other heads I know of in plastic are like gorillas, shaved mice and starved nazi guys! I’m very curious, how exactly do you define “serious”…
PS. I just read they are now also releasing some cool chariots. Really excited about this, even if I don’t fancy Orcs too much.
Now, now. Don’t get your panties in a bunch @freerider. As I stated above, ever since I read LOTR about 30 years ago I have had a picture in my mind of how an orc should look. For me, the Uruk hai from the movies come closest to that. These still have that maniacal slavering caricature look, though not as bad as the GW figures, or the offerings of other companies who set out to emulate them. In their defense, they don’t look quite as brainless, so they are an improvement.
Agreed 🙂
Like ’em a lot. Would make a nice addition to a Mantic Orc/Evil army.
