Privateer Press Preview Trollblood Heavies
December 29, 2011 by dracs
Privateer Press have previewed the upcoming Dire Trolls which will soon be available to the Trollbloods faction in Hordes.
The Dire Troll can be built in three variations, the Blitzer, the Bomber or the Mauler.
"The dire troll blitzer totes a rapid-fire slugger cannon and its pyg gunner into combat on its back, adding a lethal spray of lead to the crushing blows of its mighty fists."
"The dire troll bomber hurls barrels of explosives at the enemy before pulverizing them in melee combat."
"The dire troll mauler is a creature of savage simplicity, devastating enemies with nothing more than its gigantic fists and unearthly strength."
So guys will these brutes be making their ways into your warbands?
The Blitzer looks really cool, like a real sturdy beast. The bomber is clearly the same model before (just made in plastic/resin).
The Mauler looks more like a “meh”. Its not bad, though they could have made him better. In the end, we get a nice box with 3 Diretroll-variants. And with the help of magnets, we can switch them, however we like!
I see what your saying. Blitzer is cool, Bomber same and Mauler is so so. I think its the head that just sucks. So what I’ll do is use the Blitzer head in its place.
I love what PP are now doing with the restic jacks/warbeasts, just wondering how well magnetising a ‘creature’ would look? we can get away with it with jacks, but not sold on warbeasts, hopefully once I see one magnetised I will change my mind
I like resin, but I prefer the metal models, because the poses look so much more dynamic…
I think it depends which model you look at, the Khador range in metal was a bit static IMO, but the nomad for the mercs is defiantly a lot more fluid in metal than the resin one- though its a bit harder to actually get in a foam case slot because of the long sword swinging out.
Oh, I quite agree… I was just talking about the trolls. That’s why I’m slightly disappointed… The otehr resin models from PP are either poseable, or a bit more dynamic !

Its a necessary sacrifice to get them all in one kit I think, and with them having organic muscles in place of pistons etc pose-ability is difficult to do without it looking odd in all but one position anyway, then you’d have all the usual gaps to contend with…
To be honest the plastic is convincing me to actually start playing Hordes more. Then again I’m more of a gamer than a painter, so I am glad to have plastic even if it reduces the amount of poses etc.
Since we’re talking about Hordes plastic kits. The only one I’m extremely let down by is the Legion of Everblight’s plastic Carnivean. All they did was recast all the same models just for one box. Being in one box is great but you look at the other 2 boxes, the Dire Troll and the Warpwolf your jaw drops. I really hate simple recasts when they have great sculptors making things look more updated.

Take a look for yourself. Not one change in all three models. I feel sad now.
I actually have some Trollbloods on the way to me right now, Led by gunnbjorn so the mauler is already the third choice for me -since including it would lose the themed list bonuses- but I don’t think its that bad of a model, when I expand them to a second ‘caster it’ll be on the cards. The blitzer I think is a slight improvement, the distended look to the metal ones fists never did it for me, and they kept the best part, the pyg’s Biggles scarf :D. The bomber, well don’t broke what ain’t fixed, it seems that… Read more »
Those are some great looking trolls.
I want to convert the pyg on the blitzer so that he looks like the red baron XD
