Ogres Stomp Into The World Of Kings Of War!
June 1, 2013 by brennon
Well this was a nice surprise. Check out some really bad ass looking Ogres from Mantic Games for Kings of War. With all this hype surrounding Sci-Fi right now it's nice to have a little injection of swords and sorcery, and brute force, to keep things going...
First up we have some deadly looking axe and shield fellows with plenty of muscle behind them. Next to them are the folks wielding two-handed weapons just about big enough to carve a knight in two. I wouldn't like to bet on Paladin full plate standing up to that!
The Captain is also one mean looking son of a gun about to challenge someone on the battlefield to a right royal rumble. I'm fairly sure I already want all of these.
While the ranged contingent of the Ogre release isn't what I'm looking for myself I reckon a few people will want those massive blunderbuss style rifles and epic crossbows with mighty bayonets on the end.
I plan to use the basic infantry Ogres as part of my upcoming Throgg monster army for Warhammer Fantasy but I might end up just buying loads of them for Kings of War too. Maybe I can partner them up with Dwarfs for a mighty alliance of stone and flesh?
What do you think?

Over all I’m pleased with the look of them. They have very little in common (with the exception of the great weapons) with Warhammers Ogre Kingdoms big guys. I’ll be honest, I like them even more so than GW line. That is with the exception of the Maneaters and special characters, they still rock.
This might sound out of place but they would make for a good Bloodbowl team IMHO.
“but coach, how do we tackle someone the size of tree?!”
love the “come here bro” pose of the captain
Legs are a little too small… sigh, but pretty damn amazing. If priced right, these will be yet another must have from Mantic.
Over all these are rather good ogres. I’m really liking that Ogre Captain.
Love the overall look of these and with Mantic being the ones putting these out, they are almost certain to come at an affordable price.
My only gripe with these … are the legs. A tad too small and what’s with the “I need to pee” pose?!
Still I can see these turning up in a lot of Ogre Kingdom armies as proxies for the more expensive versions from GW.
In comparison to the Mantic Trolls, these actually look good. Like the weapons, pose is OK. If the price is good, I might be even buying me some (for a friend of mine, don’t like Ogres personally).

PS. Just noticed the guys with the Crossbows don’t even fit next to each other! Lol!
These are promising- the sculpts are pretty good and credit to mantic for doing an original take on ogres. I personally don’t like the aesthetic of the shoulder pads on an ogre (ones on the right shoulder in the first pic especially) but the sculpts are ok. The poses aren’t fanastic and I prefer the apperance of GW’s ogres more myself. The posing on the ranged ogres (crossbows especially) is very boring and not even slightly action posed- which I think is important for a dude who’s supposed to be at war. 😉 Mantic have certainly improved their miniatures line… Read more »
I agree with you about the gun Ogres. imho, they’d be better if they were actually aiming. But I am very tempted to move towards this game though. Not sure weather to collect Elves or Kingdoms of Men, lol 🙂
