Some Merry Adventurers From Statuesque Miniatures!
December 11, 2013 by brennon
We had a look at Statuesque Miniatures yesterday and they have deserved yet another one today as they revealed the first 3D print from their collection of merry adventurers. See what you think of the Barbarian and the rest of his companions.
First up we have this burly Barbarian with his mighty sword of (possibly?) Ogre Decapitation. I love the cartoonish design of him and he really does fit in with the stereotypical view of what one of these 'jockish' Barbarians would be like. I like that his race is also undefined so you could have him as Half-Orc or Human, your choice!
They have also shown off the 3D renders of the rest of the adventuring party including the awesome Dwarf, a deadly Elf and the wizened old Wizard who is probably eternally annoyed with these young whipper-snappers.
These are some of the most fun miniatures I've seen in a while and I actually can't wait until they come out. I am practically deciding how I'm going to paint them as I type.
The neat semi-cartoon look and the knowledge that these guys are great when it comes to realising their sculpts mean we should be on to a real winner here.
What do you folks think?
Nice
Though the cartoony style is not my thing, they are looking well.
I especially like how the elf is holding the fold of his cloak!
They will make a splendid adventuring party
Given how beautifully the rest of Statuesque’s range is, these miniatures are a big disappointment. Had they done fantasy miniatures with the same sense of realism that their resistance fighters range has, then they might have actually succeeded in drawing me back into fantasy.
Maybe they are going to do two ranges of fantasy figures?
They did the exquisite little elf ranger, “Ezmeralda Tyke of the Delinquents” which sort of suggests a faction. But she is all on her lonesome in the fantasy section 🙁
Would be sad if they did not do a fantasy range more in the style of their other work
I think it’s good that they have stepped outside of their normal wheelhouse for this one. I like the style and the look of these miniatures as it gives them a genuine charm and sets them apart from a selection of other sets out there.
I reckon there to be a lot of very realistic looking adventurers out there and this twist on the norm from them hits the right button for me.
Not to everyone’s taste though of course!
BoW Ben
Can definitely see the appeal.
They wouldn’t really fit in with the miniatures I already have.
That said, have just thought where these could be used. Just needs a warrior to make a party for Heroquest if the bases are not too big!
You’re right that there are lots of very realistic looking minis out there, but I really don’t like the current vogue for everything being plate armoured, packing guns and being slightly silly. I know lots of people like that but its just not my cuppa. My favoured style of fantasy is more like a dark ages Beowulfy (yes I’ve decided that is a word) style. Fantasy to me is Vikings and Wagner, not steampowered dwarfs and comedy orcs. Its actually incredibly hard to find anything that is well sculpted that fits the bill for me. I think the only fantasy… Read more »

Some of those might be more to your taste.
Kenelm especially is superb.
I have a fair few Red Box figures now. They are a slightly later period. Boiled leather and mail.
@chibi yeah, I saw that. The human minis looked good. When I came back to the hobby a few months ago I did look into fantasy first, but the hardest part is actually finding monsters of the right kind of style. The current stereotype of orcs and goblins is nothing, absolutely nothing, like what I think orcs and goblins should look like for example.
Must admit that is something that I have problems with
Have a ton of GW gobbos and some orcs but they just don’t cut it
Probably the best are the GW LOTR ones based on the film
They look simple but nice in the excitation.
