March Marks the End of Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes

It is a sad day for fans of the free to play game Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes as on March 29th Mythic Entertainment will be ending the game's online services.
Unfortunately this game of PvP arena combat is coming to a close in the next month. Now I haven't played this game, so I cannot venture much of an opinion on it, but I have heard that it does have a fairly loyal following.
Do any of you play this? Will you be sad to see it go?
I’m not surprised, they really dropped the ball on AoR, despite a very promising start/hype-machine (Paul Barnett could actually make a living out of selling snake oil to snakes, I’m not even joking) and I didn’t see this taking off when there are already better, more well established MOBA games.
Here’s hoping Dark Millenium still gets turned into something… that comes out.
Umm yeah, about Dark Millenium… that’s not going to be an MMO. They announced it will be a single player game. They dont have the budget or funding to make a big ticket mmo. Basically I have given up on MMOs altogether. My first was WoW, and that was a great experience, then i got bored of the grind. So i got excited about WAR, cuz i am a fan of GW warhammer, but once i played it (from opening day) i figured out very quickly it was still a grind. It didn’t have anything that really made it stand… Read more »
Many people, I included have come to this conclusion. I did WoW, EVE and CoH. Not one really satisfied me as the grind always killed the experience.
Yeah about that.. Dark Millenium was either cancelled or put on hold, and if people didn’t know 1-2 months ago THQ went completely bankrupt and had to sell all the dev companies and of course rest had to go, Sega now owns Relic (and think/hope 40k licence went with them, haven’t seen that confirmed aynwhere but that is what most people have guessed) and they had the Warhammer fantasy licence already last year.. Dark Millenium was being made by Vigil (that made Darksiders 1 & 2) but that wasn’t sold on the auction but later Crytek (devs of Crysis games)… Read more »

“THQ said today it is shifting focus for the long-developed MMO title Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online. The game is now a single-player title with multiplayer features.”
Before THQ kicked the bucket, they changed the direction of dmo into a single player game.
Sega definitely hold the fantasy licence, I reported on it a while back. Less sure about the 40k one, but one would assume they have that too.

I realy loved playing Wrath of heroes, ok i has not not look like the most beatiful grafhix, but if you like warhammer fantasy tabletop, you will probaly like Wrath of heroes. The sounds/voice where very nice, blackorc on the ground, “I am not dead” and “muschrooms for everyone” i am going to miss. i am glad i did not spend money on hero’s like a lott of players did, i find it a bad thing to shut a server down, when a lott of peoples have spending real money on it. How hard/ howmany will it cost/ would it… Read more »
