Mantic Announce Kings of War Cash Prize Tournaments!
June 13, 2012 by brennon
Mantic Games are steaming ahead with their Kings of War Kickstarter but when's its all done what are you going to do with all those models you just bought? Well how about entering their Clash of Kings Cash Prize Tournaments? Let's find out more...
Mantic: "We believe that Kings of War is a fantastic gaming system. However, we also realise that switching to a new game is a big commitment - so we wanted to offer a reward that recognised and sweetened that effort (don't forget you can always use your miniatures in other gaming systems too!)"
The Clash of Kings UK National Tournament
Held on the 8th/9th of February 2013 at Maelstrom Games’ Eye of the Storm, play six exciting 1800 point Kings of War games across two days in the first official Mantic Kings of War tournament using the brilliant new Hardback Rulebook.
As this is the inaugural Clash of Kings tournament, we are offering a once-in-a-lifetime cash prize pool of £1500, with the following prizes:
Tournament Champion - £1000
Second Place - £350
Third Place - £150
And if you're over in the USA then no fear, there is a tournament for you as well!
The Clash of Kings USA Tournament
This will be held at Adepticon in 2013 (Date TBA) where there will be a prize pool of $1500 up for grabs:
Tournament Champion - $1000
Second Place - $350
Third Place - $150
There will also be prizes for Best Painted Army, Most Sporting and a range of other titles at both events which could win you fame and fortune throughout the world of Mantica.
Mantic: "While we don't think playing your favourite hobby for money is necessarily a great plan, because these two are the inaugural Clash of Kings tournaments, we really want to help hobbyists make the switch to this gaming system. The more people that do, the more people we'll all have to play against!"
So how do you get involved?
Well right now you can grab tickets for the UK event (£12.49) over on the Mantic website right HERE.
...and grab your Tournament Pack here for all the rules.
Keep an eye on the Mantic Newsletter for details on both the UK Event and confirmations on the one in the USA.
So what do you think, could this be the Fantasy Tournament for you?

Awesome idea. If nothing else, the offer of a nice cash prize will entice people to try and break the game as much as possible. Will be interesting to follow the results and see how balanced the game is. Hell, if you have a whole horde of people trying to break the game for a grand, and fail to do so, this is excellent PR for Mantic.
1k GBP is awesome….1k usd is ok.:P
It’s certainly an interesting idea to start off the tournament scene for the new hardback rules. With 8th Edition Fantasy not exactly getting the warm reception GW hoped I can see this being the outlet for Fantasy players looking for a tournament kick.
Also a perfect reason for me to start a Kings of War Dwarf army lol.

Yeah I heard this on their blog. It’s good to see an incentive and the cash offered will be interesting to see how many beards grow 😉 I only hope any new additions to the rulebook are balanced and haven’t been overlooked, but still it’s just fun, right? I’m still getting my head around Kings of War and aren’t a tournament kind of player, but it’s tempting to have a go I must admit – just to see if I don’t finish last (which would be unlikely). This aside I’m looking forward to the new rulebook and have been holding… Read more »
Interesting idea, and good way to kick off the game as a tournament game. Must admit I wasn’t sold on the current Kings of War rules but never got into any depth just browsed and when not for me.
Still by the end of it I would imagine they will know if the new ruleset can be broken
Just another thought, the drop off in prize pool won’t matter if it gets a tournamnet following, especially with 8th not being popular with many tournament players.
It will be more interesting to see what comes from the kickstarter in terms of quality of sculpts etc. If Mantic do well then it could be very healthly for the gaming market.
Would it be wrong to use a GW plastic necromancer in a Mantic undead Army?? I mean he may feel like he has turned to the dark side….ummm…again
