Launch of Pathfinder Battles Pre-painted Range
August 2, 2011 by dracs
Paizo and WizKids have announced their new pre-painted range of fantasy miniatures, Pathfinder Battles.
These first sets will be available in December and are the perfect way for you to quickly get equipped for your games.
What do you all think of these? Any of you consider picking up a set?
Prepaints killed confrontation so I shun prepaints at all costs. But for a RPG I think it fits the bill for cheap, quick and easy setups.
Dumb company policies killed Confrontation. I think there is a lot of potential for prepaints, especially in RPG niche, as evident by the D&D minis. My only worry here is, that they are still trying to cling to the random distribution model, after all the successful TCGs that switched to the Living format and the Privateer’s botched Monsterpocalypse, which is a fantastic game, but was boxed randomly and now they feel the pain for it. Looks like the packs will be small (one or two minis) so they might be aiming for the impulse buy category and price range. If… Read more »
Good point about confrontation. Its hard to live after you stick your foot in your mouth and then shoot yourself in the foot when its in your mouth.
That’s exactly how I see it. The prepaints might have been a viable path to take, especially AT 43 is still sought after (I assume by the similar people that are interested in playing Dust Tactics), but the level of ignorance towards the established fanbase and their beloved lines of minis was too high.
More to the point; after all the various clix by Wizkids, the D&D minis, Dreamblade and Monsterpocalypse, I wonder how this will go.
Pulled this off the Wizkids site: Q: How will Pathfinder Battles fantasy miniatures be packaged? A: Pathfinder Battles fantasy miniatures will be available in a variety of formats. The first release, Heroes & Monsters, will come in a “brick” of 19 blind standard booster packs, with 16 packs including one Medium or 2 Small figures, and 3 large packs featuring 1 Large monster each. Duplication of figures within a sealed brick has been held to a minimum, so purchasers should get no to very few duplicate figures in a brick (as with any randomized product, collation is not guaranteed). Buyers who… Read more »
If it’s random packs then I won’t buy it.
If it’s prepaints then I usually won’t buy it, though if it looks like I can finish them off properly (and so they’ve effectively done my base coats for me) then that might be OK. Problem is that they never clean up the models so you’ve got a model with a base coat and still have to go back and clean off the mould lines….
Of course, if you’re trying to get some kids into the hobby or just hate painting then it’s all good. It takes all sorts.
The first mini – the troll or whatever – looks like he’s holding up an imaginary sign. And I bet it says “Dip me!”
Wouldn’t you use signs as means of communication if you couldn’t close your mandible? 😀
You’re right! I suppose for what appears to be the “Wasaaaaap!” monster, the common sign is really his only option!
Random or not I see these being a big hit among the RPG communities, they are a different breed to the wargamer and prepainted and plast means alot to them.
