That was intresting. Thanks guys.
Unit fillers? Screw that. Mantic models wont break the bank.
Not much of a review though….
We’ll be taking a look at the army lists in the book soon.
Any votes on which one to look at first?
Glad to hear it @beerogre I’ve been looking forward to more fantasy-related content for a while and KoW seems like a good way forward I’d like to see you guys take a good look at the Undead. They came off as one of the more “underpowered” races in the beta test, so I’d like to hear more on where they stand now…how LD changes affect them…and whether or not you guys can come up with some clever ideas to make these guys rock. They got a bad rep in the past…maybe it’s time to take another look? Also, I’m really… Read more »
Man I really like the orcs that mantic puts out I even have a couple of boxes painted up in my display case. I would be very very grateful. I have been on the fence over this game for quite sometime. the only problem is finding a following locally.
Anything you guys throw at us concerning this game is appreciated by atleast myself.
Abyssal Dwarfs… always a fan favorite 😉
I was hoping they would review the various game play elements such as how heros/monsters compare to regular units in actual gameplay, or how the 2nd edition war engine rules make them not worth the points. The biggest element in the game happens to be the timed games, which in the larger games, forces the players to decide what NOT to do in order to keep from running out of time. It appears that the guys just picked up the book, did a quick glance at the rules but not the unit statistics and sat in front of the camera.… Read more »
We’re going to look a little deeper at the rules soon. This was just the overview of the book.
If you are going to do a detailed review, you need to compare the various races – you need to look at how the units compare. With second edition, the statistics for the original races don’t seem right anymore. The elves, who are armored in full magical plate mail, have a defense of 4+ which is the same as goblin rabble. That is just one example – each of the races need a full review to make the stats, fluff and character match. KOW is a great game, but it is still far from finished. The game mechanics are elegant,… Read more »
@daltoncalford
Right On my friend,
Thanx for the input and I am with ya on a full on review of this game system.
Totally agree with Daltoncalford, a rather light review. You guys should try giving the game a go. You’ll like in a lot more than most other fantasy games out there. The 20 pages of rules are beautiful. I used to play Warhammer Fantasy, no longer after giving Kings of War a try. Darrell is correct, about small units being rather easy to kill, but a normal strategy in KoW is to make a couple of hordes to hold the line, while the smaller units flank and damage. Also, one of the big controversies of KoW is individual units. Unlike in… Read more »
One more thing, my friends and I tried the timer rule several ways, but every time decided against it. First, because we like to hurl many insults at the other side…normal taking a bit more time. Second, it discourages larger armies, because they take a long time to maneuver and position, whereas a smaller force works better in timed games. Well, at least they have the advantage, and KoW is supposed to be about large armies.
Hey Vonjunk, We play the timed game and thanks to the cost of mantic minis (and the many sales they have had over the past year) we play at 5000 points to a side. The big thing about the timed game is that movement trays are a must – you don’t have time to line up rows of individual troops. But, even at that, the big issue with the timed games is deciding what NOT to do. Last night we even tried a version of the game where you only get to move one unit per turn, so you must… Read more »
Is the release 2 rulebook available for download?
Yes, from the mantic site’s hobby -> gaming section
My search-fu was unusually weak today – cheers sukura636 🙂

You will find both the KOW rules and the Warpath rules.
Not watched the vid yet….but for this and Black Powder I will say the same thing: Demo games, please. Even if it’s just small ones with limited terrain just throw down and show us how it works!
For demo games maybe a combo of reportage postings, chat, still images and video…go all multimedia on the game
kow is easy to play and hard to master
KOW is a great game. Playing some Elves Vs Undead today 🙂
