Ex Illis Plans A Return Boosted By Kickstarter
November 7, 2013 by brennon
Ex Illis, the digitally enhanced wargame is returning to the world through the power of Kickstarter. This one came as a bit of a surprise but see what you think of their campaign and where it's going now...
It looks like they are returning with miniatures and rules that are compatible with both the digital format and throwing that all out the window to play normally. It really was a shame that the game went under because the miniatures did look very nice, and still do.
Here are some of the extra features...
- Epic, large scale combat between the forces of different lands and factions helped by demonic, angelic and magical allies.
- Zone based movement (no rulers needed).
- Management of Fatigue and Hit points, your forces' key resources.
- A unique Morale system based on synergies built into your army list.
- Soft factions to allow units to be fielded with any army... for a cost.
- Unit specialisation.
- Progression system. (leveling, talents spec etc.)
- Gorgeous illustrations and historic research to accompany the game.
- Highly detailed, 28mm scale, unpainted, hard plastic miniatures.
- Compatibility with the original digitally enhanced version of Ex illis on PC / Mac / iOS game (Coming soon).
I do like the whole historical/fantasy background that they have mixed together with this game too. I think we will be following this one closely.
Will you be pledging for a return to Ex Illis?

I’m currently pledged in, It will be interesting to see where it goes. The nice thing is the online assisted version can now be played with proxy models as they lifted the DRM apparently back in late September. So anyone can go and give the game a run with the online assisted version (I would suggest expanding the basic board after your first game the 5×4 tiles is a bit limiting). The rulebook is supposed to try to capture the feel of what the computer assisted game did automatically without being anywhere near as in depth. It will be interesting… Read more »
Yeah this is gonna be interesting to see how far this goes. I liked the miniatures well enough and if I am able to I might back this.
I’m definitely on board, there is nothing new for me other than the pen and paper rules, but I want to support anyway.
BTW I don’t think its fair to say they are abandoning the digital version. The fact of the matter is the player base they had could support a traditional style wargame, but was not big enough to support the programing / debugging aspect of game design. Hopefully this brings new blood into the game and eventually, it has enough of following to make DA gaming a viable option.
Hmmmm…may have to take a look. Been considering the Shadows of Brimstone KS….and am also interested in checking out Sword and Board’s game when it hits.
Can only support so many crowdfunding games at once.
Ex illis is doing an interesting thing in order to try to drum up more backers/interest

This week if you in comments notate someone as your mentor you and your mentor receive a free box of Demon Horde minis with your pledge of Knight or above.
Pretty interesting strategy I think, and counting the Demon hordes were the last new unit added/released to retail it wasn’t as easy to get as most of the other minis.
