Go Hunting In Hordes With The Tharn Blood Pack

It's not just Privateer Press' Warmachine that will be getting new miniatures soon. Hordes is also adding some more models, especially for the Circle Orboros in the Tharn Blood Pack...
"Ranging far ahead of a main body of attackers, Tharn blood packs move through the densest thickets with speed and agility surprising for such hulking warriors. With massive bows they loose arrows that could be mistaken for small javelins before closing with frightening speed to slaughter their prey."
This set comes in plastic and it truly is a masterful one at that. I have always had a soft spot for the Circle and if I ever collected Hordes I reckon they would be my force of choice. After I'd collected a whole bunch of Rhulic Dwarves first of course!
What do you think of this hunting party?
Is the guy in the front-middle supposed to have an arrow? It looks like a lolcat notching an invisible arrow on his stringless bow. “Am in ur hoardz, shootin’ ur guyz”
The rest of them look pretty good. As a Circle player though I have to say these are the first Tharn models I’ve seen that didn’t immediately scream, “buy me!” If they have good enough stats I’d certainly consider them, but the models alone aren’t enough to make them a must-have when compared to the other Tharn models which are all pretty awesome.
Pretty good…
Yet, once more, only one third of the unit isn’t replicated.
That’s why I seldom buy Warmahordes Units. No fun at all.
At least, when you buy a GW unit (or any type of plastic unit) you get poseability and modularity, even if parts are replicated.
GW’s using a different molding process though. I’m really curious about how PP makes their models. They don’t appear to be injection molded (and they’re definitely not styrene), but they are selling them at prices that would seem to indicate their process is less labor-intensive than the usual resin-cast stuff we see from other manufacturers. I wonder if the process has something to do with the limitations we’re seeing in some of the kits. I think I could learn to accept those limitations a little more easily if I knew more about why they’re there. Right now, it just seems… Read more »
I agree ! And they’re getting stingy with the good paint-jobs as well… shamelessly Games-Workshopizing their way to bigger shoulder-pads, bigger models and bigger armies.
However, these sculpts seem quite good !
I like the look but I do agree that getting the same model is a let down.
PP use resin with added granulated plastic to give flexibility and in my experience have poor quality control, nearly all the resin Jacks I own have horrible mould slip.
I had been looking forward to actual plastic kits so it was a bit of a let down and they are not really cheaper than the old metals so doubly disappointed, the resin minis are nice but not a improvement on the metal.
Really ? I had no real issues…
I’m sure they can replace your minis if they’re faulty, like everyone else.
In my experience PP’s quality is hit or miss. I’ve seen some really great kits (both plastic and metal) and some really awful ones (both plastic and metal). I’ve definitely had better luck with the plastic than I have with the metal though. I don’t know, it seems like there’s a few different people in charge of cutting these things up for casting and one or two do a really good job consistently while the rest really need to get better or be replaced. It seems to go along faction lines too. My Khador plastic kits are pretty frustrating while… Read more »
