With Gargantuans Week finished, Justin and Mike head to the Studio for a demo game of Hordes to show you the basics of the game, a useful entry point for those of you just starting out.
Of course when you're sure on the basics you can head off and buy one of those big beasts for your faction of choice!
Sure, play the two factions that I want to play if I ever switch to hordes. Could you twist my arm a little more?
Cheers for doing this vid, already play warmachine and will now be saving penny’s for two player starter box 🙂
I feel like I am being numb, but I really cant get my head around this game. I want to because the models are nice
Hordes is a bit trickier for some than Warmachine is. The resource mechanic is a little more complicated, and the units tend to have more special abilities (but often weaker stats). But there are tons of people who are more than happy to help. Ask questions in the forum or find a local to give a demo game. Anyone signed up with PP’s Press Ganger program is expected to give demo games when asked. It all falls together for most people after a demo game.
Just after bringing the Hoards rule book home for the first time today. This video is a great help on helping me understand the whole fury manipulation. Thanks guys
Good video lads. Justin at the end you could have had Madrak heal the two aspects on the impaler and then it could have boosted and aimed a spear – just saying.
Mike’s dice were really running hot and cold in that games it was funny to watch. Also setting up your models for a perfect spray – classic lol.
Also Justin could have paid a fury in the maintenance phase to stand Madrak up 😉
But for a demo good job.
Regarding knock down: please do NOT turn your models on their sides to represent this effect as shown in the video. Knowing exactly where the base is is crucial for following activations. It might also chip the paint of your models. A token to represent the knockdown effect is generally accepted as the best way to handle these situations.
Also, warlocks can indeed spend a fury to stand up, but it has to be in the control phase at the beginning of the turn. See page 57 of the mini-rulebook.
Hear hear !
Gaming miniatures are under enough stress as it is without knocking them over intentionnally.
gives a good jist of the game but still think its hard to understand till you play a few games.
“OH JUSTIN!” “No… not again” XD sorry i couldn’t stop myself.
Nice Demo. I’m a Menoth player, never saw Hordes played, I like ther suttle differance’s. Love to see more demo’s in the future of all games. Very nice touch.
As a complete newbie that has never seen a game played, it was a bit hard to follow. That’s okay. The general play mechanics came through fine. Hordes appears to combine resource management, positional tactics and the more subtle bit is the abilities and how that interact with the first two elements. Hordes will take a several games to get the mechanics down enough to build out strategy and tactics. I see the allure. Good job, thx!
This was very well done demo game video that hopefully helps lot of new players and help getting people into game.
Any chance we could see some vids on expanding the battleboxes? I know it was done for a few of the warmachine forces, but it might be handy for those of us wanting to start. Or even a vid on ‘essential models’?
great vid
I feel this format is the best you have done up till now and I feel this should be your base to build on.
Yes, there are a few things to iron out, especially “soldier cam” that is a great idea, but is too shaky, but overall its great.
great vid guys, well presented and played through.
I play Legion and I use that loosely as I played only 1 game. I was stunned at how deadly that little shredder chicken thing can be.
Enjoyed that. Had no idea about the game mechanics involved with hordes (or warmachine for that matter) and to be honest its never really interested me before, and I think thats down to warmachine being pushed as the main game, and the models for that just dont appeal to me much, I’m not saying they are bad, just that the aesthetic isnt really my cup of tea. However, I like the look of everblight, I had a paint scheme in my head for tyranids that I wanted to try out as purely a painting project, I may transfer it to… Read more »
Neither Hordes or Warmachine are “pushed” any more than the other. Bother are great games and as an added bonus they are compatable in both the rules and fluff so that they can play against each other 🙂 In the rule books only one small section is different in teh mechanics but both have strengths and weaknesses, the main thing is just an asthetic.
This allows gribbly dragon spawn to fight off against steam powered giant robots – what could be cooler?
I Always heard how Hordes, differently from Warmachine, is a risk management system, so it’s nice to see how the game actually plays, and also good to see that, while it plays differently, it seems to be just balanced with Warmachine and the focus system.
Nice Demo Game. Good to learn the basics and more.
I wish it had been all miniatures from the Two-Player Starter-Set.
Legion vs. Circle
Thank you for the amount of detail included in this video — I would love to see more such tutorial videos in the future for Hordes, WM or other games you cover to see if the rules or gameplay interest me =)
