Is HeroQuest Returning for its 25th Anniversary?
October 28, 2013 by dracs
The classic game of HeroQuest is one which many gamers look back on fondly. This year marks the game's 25th anniversary and it looks like it could be making a return with the help of Gamezone Miniatures.
Now a lot of people are understandably cautious about this. After all, it is hard to believe that Games Workshop would be willing to turn this licence to an other company.
However, it does appear that the Spanish company Gamezone apparently has permission to produce this. Although they will only have the rights to distribute in Spain, they plan to produce the rules in a number of languages and there will be other suppliers who can ship out to other countries.
The game might be realised with the help of crowd funding and promises to be high quality game set. The board will be double sided, while pieces like furniture and tokens will be in 3D resin. There will also be four heroes, two male and two female. All in all just what you need to delve into the classic dungeon delving adventure game once more.
Are any of you HeroQuest fans of old?
Awesome. Can’t wait for this. Gamezone make excellent miniatures to boot.
Have the original right behind me. May have to get the new version as well, just so I can compare and contrast of course 🙂
well if this does get the go ahead I hope they also do another space crusade
This is the game that first got me in to wargaming! It was looking through the quest book that I found a reference to Citadel Paints which in turn lead me to GW … initially just to find paints for my HeroQuest models to make it more interesting. I guess you could say from that moment I’ve never looked back. This one will always have a special place in my geeky old heart.
Oh man, my gaming life started with the original HeroQuest! I can’t wait to relive the old days. Maybe I can even dig up that little notepad I had drawn up multiple custom scenarios and maps on.
I play the original with my 8 and 6 year old boys all the time. This might be fun to pick up versus paying out the wazoo for Advanced Heroquest on eBay.
got a set under the bed (lack of people to play locally unfortunately) had fun as a youngster with a friend and recently got it… currently used as an rp aid… maybe with this i can use it for its true purpose once more!
This is the best news I’ve heard all day. Hell it is the best news I’ve heard all month!
Heroquest was my first miniature gaming experience. Played it with friends and also played it with my dad. So many fond memories. Got me into both RPGs and tabletop games.
Sadly my original went MIA years ago. I would get this purely for nostalgia purposes. I’ve often considered getting Descent, probably the only real spiritual successor out there, just to play a game like Heroquest.
Warren managed to undercut me by 50p iirc on the cheapo £3 I paid for my copy in a charity shop,
Great game imho but no point getting the new version
I had Heroquest, though it wasn’t my entry point to wargaming. Mine was the metal SPACE ORKS box set from the Rogue Trader days that I spotted in WH Smiths one time (other news retailers are available). I enjoyed the game so it will be nice to see an anniversary edition. Might pick one up for nostalgia purposes!
Christ have I really been playing these games for that long!?!?!?!
I got that as a Christmas gift when it first came out and that’s what started it for me.
Im going to sit quietly in the rocking chair now and remember the good old days…
What is this Hero Quest you all speak of? Call me unfortunate, I never had this game nor did I play it. Every so often someone would mention this game and ask if I could join in the next time they play it. Have yet to follow up on some of the offers. This might be a good chance for me to grab it.
HERO QUEST!
This was the game that started it all for me. I am going to have to find a store in Spain who will ship to Australia.
I have an original HeroQuest, and would love to see a new release!
Hero Quest is a title for all those born around 1975-80 which will NOT be forgotten. Very interested to see what they’ll come up with…
