The Goblins of the Shadow Hold Sneaks Up on Sword and Board
June 20, 2013 by dracs
The repertoire of the Shadow Hold continues to grow as Sword and Board Games reveal a member of the smallest race in the game.
It is really refreshing to see a goblin design which steers clear from the standard cartoony appearance we have all come to know and love. This design is, if not menacing, than easier to view as a serious threat.
However, while I am happy Sword and Board Games have gone for their own take on goblins rather than following the established image they have failed to give their own goblin much of a distinct character. Other than larger ears and an ugly face there is little which makes me think that this is a goblin. No doubt this will be more clear when the actual miniature is finished as we will have a better idea of scale.
Will you send this goblin sneaking around the Shadow Hold?
A female Goblin, thats nice indeed.
But i cant help but think she is out of proportions, the head and hips.
Slightly disturbing to see breasts on a gobbo
Don’t mind the proportions as much as, why is she not holding the mace by the grip?
(Because she is using it as a back scratcher of course)
I agree Sam, my first thought was that it is a hummie with a gobbo head, but also liking the non cliched concept. I hope they put a bit more thought and development into the figure before casting
I left a question on thier site asking if the mini’s would be available separately, and never got a response. Not sure if that’s a yes or a no or if they just don’t care lol.
Hi cpauls1, Sorry you didn’t get our reply. It was sent on the 7/06/2013. Maybe it went to your trash folder. Trust me we do care :). But to answer your question. We will be having all our miniatures available separately due to the setup of warbands in the game. As for release of miniatures our partnership with Alessio Cavatore’s River Horse to help with our rule book is due to be completed in November with a Kickstarter in December for the miniatures. I don’t want to take up Beasts of Wars forum with business talk. If anyone has any… Read more »
No doubt it’s in there. I’ll say I got it to to take the heat off you guys :-). Glad the figures will be available separately. I’m lovin’ the look on a lot of them.
Thanks for the feedback. A lot more to come 🙂
I like that its different.
The more minis we get to choose from, the better. I can’t say I define in my head this as a “goblin” but I could be wrong, so take this comment with a pinch of salt 🙂
Can’t wait to see the minis you talk about!
If you try to design a mythical/faerie folk creature there is a bit of a conundrum. You can make it as having the essential characteristics that immediately identify the creature, but that can lead to cliche and parody. Or you can take a riskier route of trying to reimagine what you think it would look like and risk people not recognising it; or maybe steer a path between the two extremes. I actually don’t mind the head too much. Yes it is predominantly humanoid with pointy ears but it works for me. The problem as I perceive it is that… Read more »
