Giant Carmine Dragon from Warhammer Forge
June 28, 2011 by beerogre
Here's the latest model from Warhammer Forge... the Carmine Dragon!
Here's what Warhammer Forge have to say about this beastie!
Carmine Dragons are strange and rare beasts even amongst their storied kin, born, it is said, when a dragon's lair is saturated by the Amethyst wind of Death; the power of Shyish gathering and magnifying within the heart and soul of the beast yet to hatch.
Carmine Dragons, sometimes known in dark legend as Encarmine Dragons, are named for their scales, which darken from a deep, ruby red when young to a purple so dark as to be almost black when they age, and many ancient tales hold them as spectres of death.
At just less than 8", it's not as epic as you might imagine, but it's still a hefty model.
What do you think guys?
I have to say thats a pretty fantastic model – love the pose and the detail. I have a soft spot for dragons and Warhammer Forge have come out with some amazing ones. Love it.
Love it, but I love Dragons, full stop.
Great stuff.
I have just bought this dragon, and I have to say I LOVE it… I am a massive fan of dragons and this is a great way to get an affordable but beautiful looking one 🙂 Well worth the £55 I think
Lucky boy Jesse!
I like this sculpt
Sadly beyond my pocket atm
Love the look of the dragon, but the photos make it look larger than it really is. Only 8″ tall with a 5″ wingspan.
chibi, that should be lucky ‘girl’ XD I just got paid and couldn’t resist buying it 🙂
8″ tall and 5″ wingspan seems small, but its perfect for what it is. Its big enough to scare your opponent but small enough to fit in a case (with lots of foam cutting of course)
Many apologies Jesse
Correction:
You are a lucky girl! lol
For the price tag its a good buy and this is FW after all. the price should be higher IMO but cheaper is always better for all of us.
I will get one. I love dragons. But who doesn’t 🙂
Just looks like a crap rip off of Heresy Andys Dragon to me. 😀
Comes in about the same height as the Black Dragon GW did for Storm of Magic apparently – that’s in at 8″ too.
I have a ridiculously difficult time with dragons, I love the things but model wise there are so few I really like, GWs for example have nice detail but are far too skinny for my tastes. When I first saw the Carmine Dragon I was really impressed, finally a Forgeworld (and to an extent GW) monster that wasn’t in that awful “front left foot raised” pose and I didn’t have to spent an extra 10+ quid on a rider I didn’t want and by Forgeworld levels the price is great too. On more prolonged viewing though, it ain’t really that… Read more »
The pose reminds me a bit of Reaper’s Red Dragon for their Pathfinder line.

God that’s a nice dragon….wow.
It’s a really nice kit for a price under 30€. A friend of mine bought it when we made a joint order to Reaper a few months ago. Comes in six parts and it’s all metal. The casting quality is good but the dragon really needs some skills working with large metal miniatures. So pinning, green stuff and Filla-Glu are your best friends with this one. There are some nice details to the model and I really like how the scenic statue head works as a counter weight for the wings. Given a proper base it’s really sturdy and doesn’t… Read more »
This is a great model and nice to see a practical base size that can work on the battlefield.
looks a bit poo, at least when compared with the Heresy dagon…… I know its quite a bit cheaper, but i’d rather save up and have the awesome one……
i like it
Thats rather good dragon. Much better than we have got from main line althought Forgeworld has always had better dragon sculpts than what Citadel ever has had.
