Gamezone Relaunches HeroQuest Via Lanzanos
December 24, 2013 by brennon
Gamezone seem to have found a way around whatever problems they were having and are now re-launching HeroQuest over on Lanzanos as a fundraising platform. It's the same campaign through and through so if you wanted in the first time then it might be worth taking another look...
They are, unsurprisingly, already through their original funding goal and pushing on towards those stretch goals. From what we're seeing in the fundraiser description they are making this available to the world so hopefully it will end up with you.
It will be interesting to see how this one progresses this time around and if we're going to see something else come crashing down on the campaign.
Something in my mind wonders if they just changed the name and tweaked a few mechanics they could get a 'spiritual successor' out there without having to jump through all these hoops.
Will you be backing?
NOTE by @Warzan: We have reached out to Gamezone a couple of times to get a briefing on what is going on, no reply as of yet, but we'll reach out again.

Wont be jumping in feet first thats for sure
After the Kickstarter episode, they got cancelled in less than 6 hours on their second try… I was all excited the first time. I didn’t even look the second time and now… Although I’d really like this project to see the light of day, I don’t feel like loosing money so I’ll wait until it is available in store…
Oh how I would have liked to get all those extra bits! 🙁
Im the same way since Heroquest, Warhammer quest were my break out game into the hobby all those years ago I would love to see it but with gaming on a budget and the New Tyranids coming out Im not sure if I would want to invest in it after the problems Gamezone had
I wont be jumping on this one either, I didnt even know about the second attempt and I cannot make sense of the crowd funding site as I have no way to follow or watch the campaign I will likely miss it even if I did want to back it before its close. I have no interest in backing this campaign without at least a month passing with it being active before hand. Then I may consider it if the concept models, game rules etc look good and the language barrier is not a issue!
That’s a fair point too… The first time, on Kickstarter, the English text was so full of errors, I decided to review it (even though English is not my first language). They don’t even look like they’re trying to translate their stuff properly. Very poor communication skills…
What happened before? This is the first I’m hearing of HeroQuest coming out (although there was mention on the weekender). This isn’t the first time they tried to fund it? Anyone know the specifics of what happened last time? Was it just language barrier?
The project got cancelled on Kickstarter because they didn’t have the rights to distribute in the United States. It then moved to an obscure crowd funding site where it also got cancelled after only six hours. This is their third attempt. You can find all the details here:

Thanks!
It was on kickstarter, it blew up bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars pretty quickly but they didn’t own or have permission to use the name in the US. So lawyers got involved it got pulled, they have tried 2 other crowdfunding sites since but i think it was pulled pretty quickly on one and the other wouldn’t touch it. Since it didn’t come back to kickstarter I imagine they haven’t come to any sort of agreement with the names owner in the US. Hers a link to the forum with more specific info here on BOW.

Oops. lol. looks like I was a few minutes to late.
It only shows how much we feel cheated by Gamezone for not being honest with the backers… 😉
Got to hand it to those cool mini or not guys with all their shell companies, they are persistent if nothing else. Seriously I am with the fans on this, if people want to buy the game cool … but I hate blind anger. The company that owns the IP in the US is not name camping, etc. They have an actual product that they have been putting out for years. Its an RPG system that while perhaps not my cup of tea, is an actual product that has been in publication since 2005. The fact that these guys developed… Read more »
I agree. Moon Design (the company that owns the IP) are not to blame. Gamezone are for not doing the necessary research before starting the project.
I don’t know anything about the Coolminiornot stuff though, so I won’t comment it.
I’m not funding. I’ve done it twice only for it to be cancelled.
Totally agree Moon Design, or any other company that legitimately owns the copy write globally are at no fault at all. They are rightfully defending there intellectual property. I was fully behind this before the kickstarter launched could not wait purely on nostalgia but I do not agree with a company using a legal loophole to STEAL what someone else has worked for. Now if this campaign actually runs for its duration then I will back it at the end but I will be shocked if it manages as much as they will only do so if they have a… Read more »
Nope, not again. I was all for this the first time through. When things seemed a little off during the campaign (major lack of communication from GZ, for example) I chalked it up to green experience on the part of the creators. When it got canned on KS, I was hopeful things would work out. But as more information began to surface it became apparent that Gamezone was massively at fault. They either A: did not do enough research or B: just simply didn’t care regarding IP issues. More and more I’m beginning to think it is option B rather… Read more »
Cant believe people are dumb enough to keep bqcking this project.
FIrst I’m hearing about CMoN too. Anyone got any info on it? Even if they do own Gamezone, then GZ aren’t displaying any of the characteristics of a shell company.
I think CMoN has production and distribution rights for Gamezones miniatures in America. CMoN made their own moulds from GZ masters or something. Not sure they actually own the company.
I’ll be keeping out of this one as even if the funding all goes through OK who’s to say that things won’t get tied up in legal disputes. Would hate to pledge some cash for nothing to materialise.
I’m not even touching this one with someone else’s ten foot pole.
Can I add my 10 foot pole onto the tip of yours as I don’t even want to be holding the pole.
As many of you have mentioned I have become a supporter of Moon just because its become apparent that GameZone are leeches and using a well known game name for profit. They could have released the game on its own merits and most likely done well. But no they take the name and the nostalgia with it to make the numbers go up.
I was going to get a copy on KS but the companies carry on has developed a no trust for me. I’ll stick to Descent 2nd Edition, love the campaign mode.
Well the crowdfunder has successfully completed now. Surely that’s as good a sign as we can hope for!
