Games Workshop Tease A Hobbit Related Release In December
November 20, 2012 by brennon
If you've been keeping an eye on White Dwarf magazine from Games Workshop over the last couple of months you might have noticed The Hobbit teasers scattered throughout. Well, there isn't long to wait now for both the film and indeed the Strategy Battle Game...
The above teaser trailer appeared on Whats New Today yesterday, and points to the next White Dwarf being a very furry footed one! I personally can't wait to see what they do with The Lord of the Rings system, and of course the miniatures should look great!
Are you hyped the The Hobbit?

The usual complete waste of time teaser.
Pity GW have the franchise. I would otherwise be tempted to see what the Hobbit models are like. Especially if the Perry Bros are sculpting them
But hey ho a pig is as happy in his own muck as in another’s.
I had really looked forward to the release of the LOTR models too, till I found out some tool decided to make the range 25mm. They weren’t compatible with with my 28mm fantasy stuff. Meh.
No Paulsi, . The LoTR miniatures are perfect in scale
GW got the rest of their models wrong
What’s chronology got do do with it, non linearity was so next season.
imho the LOTR figures are generally the best to come out of GW.
Heroic scale is okay but I prefer my minis to have more realistic proportions, and not to have big heads.
That’s my prerogative! 😛
I also agree with Ben about D & D especially as they fit better with my Redbox figures.
As I mentioned I really am interested in seeing what they do with The Hobbit range. The rules were pretty fun and I enjoyed playing through all the scenarios in the old Fellowship/Two Towers/Return of the King days with the different rulebooks etc. I will obviously do myself a Dwarf army when The Hobbit gets released, and I will most likely pick up the boxed set too. As for the models being out of scale with the rest of the GW Fantasy stuff, that didn’t matter too much for me. We used our LotR models for Dungeons & Dragons, you… Read more »
At least the teaser had a date to check back, most of them don’t even have that!
The lotr rules were fantastic for scenario driven small scale battles – which is what they were designed for, and the original rules plus missions was an excellent format. What has been done to the system in Rick’s absense is hopefully very little. The minis are a different scale and that to my mind is a good thing. Hopefully war of the ring will get revisited when the battle of Five armies hits the screens – another great system for its purpose – possibly with a slight magic imbalance but the LOTR games to me have always been more about… Read more »
The strategy battle in question is finding an independent stockist that does a big enough discount you’re not forced to sell one of your kidneys or go a few weeks without eating… ¬_¬
GW don’t do teasers. If they did the’d probably be the worst ones in the world.
Despite that, Tolkien and Perry’s are a winning combination for me.

Here is the second teaser trailer…not going to make another story about it lol.
BoW Ben
40 seconds of my life I’ll never get back, yet I always click on these damn GW teasers… fool me once etc 🙁
Nice battlefield/board though. Apparently that’s what the BatRep in the new WD will be played on. I’m fairly sure miniature companies shouldn’t do video teasers…just stick to pictures of odd bits of a model, a sword here, a scaly hide there.
Worked when they were doing the Khemri release build-up.
Why didn’t they just show that one. At least it gave a glimpse of their terrain which looks great even if it will cost the same as a new Ferrari
oops sorry forgot, that should be, Porsche lol
Totally agree Ben. Much more effective imho
FRP games daily newsletter has the list of pre-orders but no pictures. It looks like theres 3 box sets. Hobbit Escape From Goblin Town(esrp$115), Escape from Goblin town Limited Edition(esrp$125) and Hobbit a Unexpected Journey(esrp$85). They have everything at what looks like 20% off. Plus a bunch of other stuff listed. I haven’t seen any product lists anywere else I wonder how they get away with showing that so early?
I think An Unexpected Journey is just the hardback rulebook, not a box set of its own, that would fall in line with the dark vengeance box sets, IE the box set, a box set with an extra model, and a hardback book with fluff and some random hobby sections added to the little one in the box sets.
Your probably right, I just didn’t want to believe that the rulebook would be 85$ thats more than Forge Worlds Imperial Armour books and more than the Fantasy and 40k rulebooks. I hope those don’t go up to.
I got a list of some of the fine cast if anyone’s interested.
CF Khamul the Easterling (Ringwraith) $36.25esrp
CF Khandish Chieftain foot and mounted $24.75esrp
The next ones aren’t listed as Finecast so I figure they are plastic.
Serpent Guard $15.00esrp
Mumak Mahud $12.25esrp
The Trolls $85.00esrp
Goblin Captain $15.00esrp
Goblin Town $60.00esrp
@cazboab, I’m sure you’re right. My wallet is crying because they have dropped the box set AND a new rulebook in the same month!
Given the “quality” of GW’s hobby articles and fluff, I’d say you’re better off with the smaller rules in the box set, looking stuff up on youtube and an omnibus edition of the original books, but I totally understand that for some folk the hardback book is a must have, the little ones don’t look right on a shelf next to the last 20 years of hardbacks…
That’s my trouble, I’m a hoarder, and I love books. As much as I have embraced the digital age with gusto (typing on my ipad while reclining in my armchair) there’s nothing like the feel of thumbing through the pages of a new Rulebook. I have a sense of pride of ownership when I look at my bookshelf.
On the bright side Talos, if you want to know more about The Hobbit you can always read the novel 😉
BoW Ben
LOL Ben, you mean read the novel again… 🙂
I just stopped by the GW site after being without a computer for over a month and was completely floored by the insanity presented before mine eyes. i didn’t know whether to laugh or to scream when I beheld the prices on the new Hobbit line. It’s official, GW needs to be Baker Acted because they have gone crazy and are now a danger to themselves and /or their friends and family. $75 for 4, FOUR!!!! man sized 28 mm figures, $40 for 1 mounted and 1 on foot , and $85 for 3 PLASTIC trolsw/ a fluff terrain peice.LMFAO!!!!
