New Daemon Hordes for Ex Illis
August 29, 2011 by dracs
The latest release for Ex Illis is coming marching onto the battlefield, spreading terror and destruction in its wake. Behold the Daemon Horde!
Now while I wouldn't normally call 8 of something a horde they are still some rather nice looking miniatures, sure to be welcomed into games of Dungeons and Dragons as well as Ex Illis.
So what's the verdict? What do you all think of these new minis? Any of you tempted to pick up a set?

I am. Been waiting for a sign that Ex Illis was really back and this is it.
I like how these look more like medieval idea of the demons (Bosch, Bruegels) than the GW’s goth angst … much scarier.
Good call Lucas,
Would be cool for Songs of Blades and Heroes
Would be great for SoBH … about the right amount in the box too, provided you don’t give them all Q2, C4 … 🙂
Doooh You saw right through me! lol
Looks OK, the only thing that seems odd is the axes seem small. But what is cool is the heads have a great range in them.
Axes seem small compared to the established Chaos absurdities … I chopped a healthy number of fire logs with something like that in the spring and if those were heads … 😀
In other words, it’s not the size, it’s the technique … 😉 Besides, those axes get really scary when you realise they use them as toothpicks AFTER they’re done with you! 😀
The minatures look nice, the game itself doesn’t inspire me.
I mean, why bother moving figures around on the board, when the pc does all the actual gaming for you?
Well arguably it enables you a much deeper system without the need of bookkeeping, checking tables etc. … then there is the campaign managing aspect of developing armies, resources, …
What bothers me is the grid-board. Why couldn’t they come up with a system where you’d tick the fighting minis, distance between them and any applying modifiers? Computer would help with the calculations, while the movement would remain free-form.
Thats why I play Shogun 2 😉 I guess I just like rolling dice.
The demo vid just looked like a low graphic version of Etherlords..
This is the best gaming news I’ve read this year! FYI – axes are small because they are meant to be throwing axes. Units in the game can be specked to move and fire, or even better, fire then move. @ Lucas – the grid based movement system is deeper than it seems at first blush. With stats like aggression and bulk, lumped into constraints from terrain and modular fight facings, movement and troop placement can be very critical to the overall ingame strategy. Its not as detailed as free form movement, but selecting where to move, when to move… Read more »
