Dwarf King’s Quest Interview With Ronnie From Mantic Games!
July 23, 2014 by warzan
As you should know by now we had Ronnie Renton from Mantic Games over for a little visit and while he was in the studio Warren got to sit down for a chat about the next big game heading down into the depths of some dungeon somewhere, Dwarf King's Quest!
This could well be the next big dungeon delver so see what treasures we can get out of Mr Renton!

Do like Ronnie’s seminars, he spills ALL the beans.
Makes him a terrible dinner guest though…

Your post was a single word and you managed to misspell it 😀
I’ll use my broadsword.
Fire of wrath!

“Once you get into it, you will never be the same”… quite literal and accurate…
Those prices! 😀
Loved Heroquest as a boy. I’m really liking the way this seems to be shaping up.
Looks pretty cool, I started with HeroQuest as my first game. Though part of that was because it was available in Wal-Mart where I could find it as a little kid. I wonder how you achieve that mass availability in today’s world, where now you have the internet.
Nice, I loved HeroQuet and Space Crusade, might get in on this one!
Cannot wait for this. Awesome.
Will definitely be dropping some cash on this kickstarter and you just know Mantic will smash it’s funding in no time at all.
Great video lots of neat new stuff confirmed from the bosses mouth.Did anyone else think Ronnie was going to start talking about expansions/stretch goals at the end of the video but was cut off?
Squeee! I’m all in for this one. Never done a Mantic Kickstarter before, but from what I’ve seen, they do look pretty epic. Add to the fact that I got into WFB (3rd) and WFRP before the whole Heroquest thing, so I pretty much looked down on the whole genre (at the oh so mature age of 13…) and missed out on the fun. A couple of decades later, I find myself wanting the simpler, everything done for me boxed games. Second thing that I’m going to do after I invent my time machine, is go back and smack 13… Read more »
I really like the way they have thought out the progression levels through the game.
The only thing I think they may want to look at later in the development is letting legendary heroes take henchmen in to the dungeon.
And then these legendary heroes and henchmen could be the start of a warband type army used in the skirmish game that bridges between Dungeon Sagas and Kings of War perhaps?
Just a thought…
Kind of like an epic dungeon version of Mordheim. The thought alone makes me drool
That’s a wonderful idea, definitely a lot of potential there I think!
We’ll ya the open day they were discussing a kings of war skirmish using plastic tiles to create castles. I think that might be what you are reaching for here 🙂
I love listening to Ronnie simply because he is so candid. He always gives a fascinating insight into how games development and the business works.
I remember the good old days of heroquest etc and this sounds right up my street.
This sounds great. It looks like Mantic will be making my pockets lighter… yet again!
I still play Heroquest and Space Crusade occasionally. So exited for Mantic’s take on the genre… I love Deadzone…. Ronnie you are going to bankrupt me 😉
the game sounds fantastic and the minis look stunning, especially the ones on Jakes blog and they showed off at the open day. I can’t wait and have started squirreling cash away for it.
Ronnie he’s a fanatic like the rest of us and that passion just draws you in. Going to be a run away success like DB, DZ and MA.
I’m gonna buy a special magic hooded robe and read the Book Depravity out loud in camera as @warzan did with for the Necron Megalith.
I have to love Mantic, is not an option when they name their very special book with that name, hope for some Mantic/Kingdom Death crossover for that book.
Looking forward to this one!
Hero quest was how I got into gaming. Had it for christmas one year. Not looked back since.
I think a lot of late 20’s – early 30’s got into a wargaming in the same way. Either Heroquest, Space Crusade, Space Hulk etc.
Think there is a BIG hole in the market for this kind of gateway game, to function as a hook for getting people into tabletop gaming. Mantic have recognised this, lets hope they can deliver with a good quality release.
Muusssstttt reeesssissssttt KS!!!!… I was thinking of skipping this one, as I’ve got a massive box of Myth stuff due AND I’ve got a copy of Warhammer Quest from back in the day…
… but Mantic just run such great KS and do an awesome job on delivery as well… and this does seem like it would be an easier game for the missus to get into… Hmmmm… I’ll check it out…. and then probably end up caving 😉
This sounds like it’s everything I wanted DKH and Myth to be.
And let’s be honest here guys, if they include cardboard/plastic furniture for the dungeon, I’M ALL IN! Here’s my credit card info, just take whatever you need lol
HeroQuest is what go me into miniatures gaming too back in the day and I LOVED it! I played it again not too long ago and was kind of a little bit disappointed with its simplicity but just as Ronnie said: when you’re 12, this is exactly what gets your imagination going and tickles that sense of adventure in every little boy.
Dwarf king with retinue….ALL skeletons…..niiiceeee!!!!!!!!
I’m interested in seeing what the zombie trolls turn out like!
look forward to seeing this 🙂
Realy looking forward to this, as I think it will be a tipping point for Mantic to produce very high quality miniatures using better material. Really hoping for HIPs here. 😀
… it’s definitely pvc
I died a little inside when he said that.
Good starter I think, if you haven’t done this sort of thing before.
